Thinkful's Data Science Immersion Program Solves the Work-Life Balance Conundrum

A few months ago, I had coffee with a Thinkful student, Matt. He was enrolled in Thinkful’s Data Science Flex program and, like most of his classmates, was juggling a full-time job while going to school. Matt described his demanding day—waking up at 6:45AM to study, squeezing in some reading on his metro ride to work, rushing home to meet with his mentor, and then spending a few more hours on his capstone project before bed. I was beyond impressed with Matt’s tenacity and organizational skills, and one thing was clear: his life was as exhausting as it was exhilarating.

Thanks to Thinkful’s newly launched Data Science Immersion program, aspiring data scientists like Matt no longer have to work and study at the same time. This full-time program allows students in select markets to apply for Living Stipends to cover expenses like rent and groceries throughout the five month duration of the program. Additionally, for the first time, Thinkful’s Income Share Agreement is available to data science students. That means that students in the Data Science Immersion program can choose to pay no tuition until they’re hired.

Here are a few more highlights of the program:

• Tuition refund guarantee: Data Science Immersion and Data Science Flex are the only data science bootcamps that come with a tuition refund guarantee. That means Thinkful will refund the tuition of students who don’t get hired within 6 months of graduating.
• One-on-one mentorship: Data Science Immersion and Data Science Flex, are also the only data science bootcamps to offer one-on-one mentorship. This method of instruction is one of the reasons that Thinkful has the best hiring rates, according to industry watchdog CIRR.
• Industry-vetted curriculum: Data Science Immersion students can choose from three different specializations: Advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP), Deep Learning, and Big Data. Additionally, students are trained in Python, statistics for data science, machine learning, and the full data science toolkit including SQL, NumPy, and Pandas.
