To get a top-tier coding bootcamp experience, students generally head to San Francisco or New York. Only on the coasts do top schools like Hack Reactor, Fullstack Academy, and App Academy teach full-stack web development at the level necessary to see truly remarkable hiring results (95% plus).
But this is no longer the case. Beginning June 2016, Fullstack Academy will be offering its renowned Software Engineering Immersive course in Chicago. As a point of entry, Fullstack acquired The Starter League, one of the original coding schools that pioneered the industry years ago. Fullstack’s inaugural Chicago program will be open to both career-transitioners and college students interested in supplementing their education with hard skills over Summer break.
Roughly 10% of applicants to Fullstack Academy are accepted, but selectivity in a bootcamp is a virtue, not a vice. By admitting the best candidates, top programs can guarantee all students will receive a rigorous immersive experience while being surrounded by the most motivated and innovative peers.
On their website, Fullstack recommends resources to aspiring coders who want to attend an elite school. In addition to online beginner resources and in-person classes, they recommend practicing with coding challenges. Selective programs will require candidates to demonstrate their motivation and coding aptitude using application assessments—the challenges found on Codewars closely resemble the ones seen on Fullstack’s assessment.
