For any designer-to-be, it’s crucial to have support throughout your learning experience. That’s no exception for those going through online courses like Bloc’s Designer Track. Since 2012, Bloc has been teaching part-time online courses. In the past few months, we’ve completely changed the structure of our Designer Track program to fit the needs of our students. The biggest change? The introduction of 360 support.
What’s included in 360 support?
In addition to a strong curriculum, mentorship sets students up for success from day 1. Mentors are great in that they not only provide feedback and talk through difficult concepts but are also experts in the field of study. Mentorship has been a critical component of Bloc over the years and it continues to be moving forward.
"A lot of people ask me about Bloc, and the one thing I tell them that separates Bloc from the others is how it’s a very tailored experience. My mentor got to know me as a person and a designer and was able to help me identify my strengths and build on my weaknesses.” -Zoë, Bloc graduate now working at Microsoft
Group Sessions & Critiques:
Bloc offers group sessions and daily design critiques to students. Group Sessions are led by industry experts and cover tough topics and subjects in the Designer Track curriculum. Our popular daily group critiques are essential for presenting, receiving, and giving feedback to fellow designers. Good design takes time and iteration. With group critiques, students improve and create the best projects for their portfolios.
“I like that I get feedback from different perspectives, as I feel this will make me competitive on the job search.” -Tyler, current Designer Track student
Live Q&A Support:
At Bloc, we added over 80+ hours of Q&A support to our Designer Track. It’s important that our students have a place to go when they hit a roadblock at 11p on a Tuesday. Our goal is to help you get to your goals faster by answering questions faster.
“Outside of the mentor sessions, there is a Slack group for all students to interact and experts in the feld are fully dedicated to answer questions and help students ‘get unstuck’.” -Maria, Designer Track alumnus
Career Support and Curriculum
And lastly, probably one of the most important aspects for you career switchers out there, is career services and curriculum. Bloc’s program is designed for those looking to change careers. It’s important that from day 1 in the program, you’re receiving materials and tips to help you on your job search. Checkpoints woven throughout the curriculum include: networking, writing your cover letter and resume, finding focus in your job search, salary negotiations, and more! We strongly believe in our career services which is why we have our tuition reimbursement guarantee: if you don’t find a job in 180 days of completing the program and you meet program requirements, we’ll refund you your entire tuition.
“Bloc’s Career Services team was very supportive and extremely helpful throughout the course. In addition to learning what I needed to do through their detailed job preparation checkpoints, the career services team readily offered valuable advice whenever I needed it through emails, private messaging, and their careers channel on Slack. Another huge bonus is that Bloc’s Career Services is for life, it doesn’t end after you get a job!” -Alisa, Bloc graduate now working at ExxonMobil
