Launch​ ​Academy​ ​Heads​ ​to​ ​the​ ​Nation’s​ ​Capital

Big news, aspiring web developers—Launch Academy is headed to Washington, D.C.! We’re currently building out our campus at The Cove’s newest location in Dupont Circle, and are accepting applications and scheduling interviews. Our inaugural D.C. cohort kicks off in January 2018 (with pre-work starting in November 2017).

At Launch Academy, we work off an Agile curriculum model—meaning we’re constantly iterating, based on feedback from students and our hiring partners, to improve and update our courses to provide the best possible outcomes for our students. We update the languages we teach based on hiring needs and alumni reporting; we tweak our cohort structure based on student and staff recommendations. We’ll be bringing these tried-and-tested learnings from our Boston and Philadelphia locations to D.C.

Here are the key details for Launch Academy’s first D.C. cohort:

• The student:teacher ratio is anticipated to be 6:1.


• Instructors will be from Launch Academy’s Boston and Philadelphia campuses, as well as from the D.C. tech community.


• Curriculum will follow the Boston and Philadelphia coding bootcamp structure, featuring eight weeks of part-time at-home pre-work (Ignition), followed by 10 weeks full-time immersive on-campus learning. The on campus experience consists of six weeks of mentor group instruction focusing on JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Ruby, Ruby on Rails, and React, followed by two weeks spent on group projects and two weeks on individual capstone projects.


• In order to graduate, each student must complete our Career Services curriculum, run concurrently with our coding instruction, culminating in Career Kickoff. During Career Kickoff, students have the opportunity to present their work to prospective employers, network with hiring partners, and set up interviews.


• Tuition is $17,500, with financing available through Skillsfund. An automatic $2,000 diversity scholarship will be awarded to all students in the first two cohorts.


• Scholarships are available for women and underrepresented minorities in tech.


• We anticipate a job placement rate similar to our Boston cohort (93 percent) and Philadelphia cohort (91 percent).
