You’re probably reading this because you’re exploring the world of coding bootcamps. That’s an exciting place to be—don’t you love the taste of a new adventure?
You’ve got a ton of options and a lot of research ahead of you (or maybe behind you!), so we’re excited that you’re stopping by to get to know The Iron Yard. The first thing you need to know about us is that we think deeply about things, from the motivations of the teachers we hire to the reasons people want to join The Iron Yard family. You could say it’s in our DNA—a shared mission among our entire staff.
Our instructor team is a huge part of what makes us unique. That’s an easy thing to say, but probably feels cliché on a blog with so many instructor interviews. Our instructors are full-time and most of them have 10+ years of experience. We’re a die-hard people-focused company, so we thought it would be great for you to meet one of our instructors in person—or as close to in person as we can get in a blog post.
We sat down with a video camera and chatted with Joel Taddei, one of our Python instructors. Joel has had a long, successful career building all sorts of software in a number of different languages, but his favorite part of his work has always been mentoring beginners who are just starting out in the world of programming.
Enough explanation, though. We’ll let you dive in, meet Joel and hear him talk about what makes a student successful in his course, his philosophy on “learning how to learn,” and his opinion on the difference an in-person code school makes when it comes to support.
