Read More changed pretty dramatically with the outbreak of covid, and as result, I began looking for better ways to provide for my wife and two children. After a lot of research and soul searching, I had made the decision to go with devCodeCamp for four main reasons: 1) They had the most flexible timeline for completion out of all the camps I looked at. 2) Their price was quite reasonable, relative to other camps I had looked at. 3) They had a thorough and rigorous curriculum--including a devOps unit to help get projects deployed--many other camps didn’t offer devOps. 4) They had great reviews and great employment outcomes. When I started the bootcamp I was teaching, coordinating concerts, making lesson plans and carving out as much time as possible for Python and JavaScript. When I finished I was working as a QA and finding more and more connections between my work and what I learned in my bootcamp. As a graduate now looking back, I genuinely feel devCodeCamp was the right place for me. The content was challenging, rigorous and overwhelming at times, but every week I would get on a call with my instructors and they would help me untie the knots I inadvertently put in my code and get me back on the right track. I even received support during weekends on several occasions even though instructors had no obligation to help me till Monday. They were/are invested in their students. I was also extremely grateful for the flexible timeline that allowed me to continue to provide for my family and to learn at a pace that worked best for me. Sometimes I finished the unit and the assignments but felt that my grasp of the content was still somewhat nebulous so I would spend another week or so on that content cleaning up the code or doing the bonus project to make sure I really understood the content and was actually ready to move on to the next set of concepts. This flexibility combined with my instructors willingness to meet me where I was made a huge difference for me. In addition, building my capstone--a meal planning grocery list app--was probably the most fulfilling and challenging part of the experience. The process of sending a proposal, writing user stories, using a kanban workflow, and receiving weekly accountability really helped to set me up for success. I came away from the experience excited to build more applications and add more functionality to the one I had just built. My wife and I actually use my app for our grocery bi-weekly shopping. The career services unit has likewise been excellent. I landed a job as a QA early on in the bootcamp by networking, but I am still working toward landing a coding job and there are numerous things I wouldn’t have known about resumes, cover letters and LinkedIn if not for the well made content they provided. The few cons I can think of with devCodeCamp are that some of the video lectures are long and somewhat abstract until after you have done the project. You may want to either watch them after completing the assignments or review them after completing the projects so the information has more meaning. There may also be times where your instructor won’t know how to solve a problem or says not to worry about an error message because the overall application still works. My advice with that is to take such times as a challenge to dig deeper and learn something new about the software that even your instructor doesn’t know. Changing careers and learning to code is not for the faint of heart, but if you are sure you like coding, feel ready to be humbled, and are genuinely committed, devCodeCamp is a great place to do it.

Before attending boot camp I had worked in the real estate industry. After my layoff, I decided that I needed a career switch and I was leaning towards a career as a Data Analyst. I did some research and decided on devCodeCamp. I spoke to one of their... Read More onboarding staff and she did a wonderful job assisting me in realizing that Data Analysis was the path I needed to take! She helped me through the entire process of signing up, and getting financial aid, and encouraged me since I was really nervous! I had NEVER coded or done much tech-related before!! As a student at devCodeCamp I was completely impressed at how the curriculum was laid out and the flexibility the entire course had. Each week you have lectures and demos to watch as well as written documents that explain everything and provide examples. You then get to put all of that to work in various labs, problems, and projects. Anytime you have a question you have access to the instructors via Slack and they will be there quickly to help you out! The instructors give you feedback using modern tools such as a recording of themselves explaining the issue you are having, or they hop into a Zoom meeting with you. They can even port into your computer and work on a solution together with you!!! If you are considering enrolling, do your research, read the reviews and I feel that you will reach the same conclusion that I did! devCodeCamp has been an awesome experience and I am very happy with the results! They were able to take someone like me who has never coded before, and teach them how to code, go through the whole process as a Data Analyst and complete many projects and end up with a 4.0 at graduation!! When you graduate, they also have Career Services who will guide you through writing your resume, LinkedIn, and any other tools to help you be successful in finding your first tech job!! The instructors and staff at devCodeCamp are very professional, kind, supportive, and amazing at what they do!!! I can't recommend them enough!! I now have a bright future ahead of me, being able to do something I love and having complete confidence in knowing that I will be successful because of the knowledge and skills I have learned at devCodeCamp.!!

As a graduate of the full-stack flex program (from home, online, solo) I relied heavily on questions for the instructors. The lectures and demos did a great job of laying things out for the assignments and projects ahead. The course is not for the faint... Read More of heart, though...it will challenge you! With that being said, the instructors were not only quick to respond but they also gave quality instruction when called upon. As someone who called on them often, DO NOT BE AFRAID to ask as many questions as you can... there is no judgment! If I had to point out any cons, there would be just two small ones. One, the weekly scheduled 1-on-1 Zoom meeting is only 30 minutes long. This time seemed to fly by when digging into any problems or working through code. Second, as someone who worked full time and had to watch recordings of the open weekly meetings, I wish they would have taken recommendations via Slack messages on what to go over or what we need assistance on. Other than those small details, they do a very good job all in all!

So it was much harder for me to get going since I never done it before. But the instructors took their time and help me understand the problems that I was having.

I recently graduated from dCCs Full Stack Flex program. It was a time in my life that coincided with a great deal of change and struggle, which equated well to the challenge of swapping careers from music and audio to development. Truth be told, I almost... Read More did not finish on two specific occasions due to what was going on and the struggle to understand the material because of my own limitations. Thankfully, the instructors are very good about checking in and supporting the students. There were many adjustments to the resources and my main one on one instructor was particularly good about helping in our sessions find the best ways for me to catch up and understand what I needed to do. Likewise as the projects became more complex, the rest of the instructors offered a great deal of help "filling in the blanks" so I could finish and succeed in the camp. I was thankful for the empathy and effort put forth, and it led to a great deal of enjoyment with this new field. I am hopeful looking ahead to a job in this industry because of my experience at dCC. Definitely weigh if coding and coding bootcamps are the right leap for you to take, but if you choose to take it, dCC is the place to be.

After spending the last 12 years working in the HR field, I wanted a change in my career and since my path started out in a technical field, I knew that’s what I wanted to get back to. My passion for working with technology was something that always seemed... Read More clear in each position I held, but I didn’t know where to start in making that dream become a reality. That’s when I found devCodeCamp’s Full-Stack flex program. The advisors did a thorough screening on why I wanted this and discussed any potential barriers that might stand in my way. Starting into the program seemed easy at first, but as I found out, the program started scaling up to be a little more difficult each week. I remember telling my instructor that I originally wanted to be a front end developer, but the program did a good job of highlighting strengths and opportunities for frontend or backend development. Having some experience as a programmer/analyst in my background helped a bit, but not as much as I thought it would. I feel like it seemed easier to forget all that I had done in the past and just start fresh to learn new habits. The group lesson each week was incredibly helpful and James did a good job of highlighting potential challenges each week. Another thing that I really appreciated was how well received the questions were that my classmates had in the group sessions last Fall. The groups were broken out by subject, but it seemed that no matter who the instructor was, each one had the ability to gauge how deep to go in finding the answer. After getting the news that I had successfully completed the program, career services started helping me to tailor my resume for the transition, market myself through LinkedIn, and send me opportunities to apply for. I’m so excited to slowly see my dream becoming a reality and be in a field that thrives on collaboration. I can’t wait to learn more and evolve with technology!

Going into DevCodeCamp I had minimal computer knowledge but no background or practice in coding. The course was very easy to start off and is ramped up in a steady fashion. There was no point I felt as though the course was not workable. There were times... Read More when roadblocks did occur but the instructors were quick to help. I never felt looked down upon for having a question, in fact, the instructors congratulated me for having questions and showing that I wanted to learn the material. When I left the course I did feel like I could make a career from this learned experience. I felt accomplished and the instructors reinforced my confidence to take on the careers ahead.
