Flatiron School

Currently I am taking a prep course with Flatiron School and absolutely enjoy the curriculum. The community is really supportive, not only instructors but also other students and even alumni are out there to help you on every your step if you get stuck.... Read More Literally every time if something is not clear you just post your question and it takes a couple of seconds for someone to get you unstuck. You dont feel alone on this journey and that's really important.

My first and only experience with coding was through a past mentorship with my company, which helped me 'get my feet wet' and left me wanting to pursue web development. I found Flatiron's online program, which was perfect for my schedule and received... Read More the Women Take Tech scholarship to join the program. I always felt pushed during the program, yet supported- but not in a 'hand holding' way. You'll definietly get pushed into the deep end a lot, which mimics real world development!
I haven't completed the program (just have the React module left) and was lucky enough to already be starting a job in web development. The coding structure and amazing support from coaches, fellow students, and the career prep team made my experience at Flatiron wonderful and I would definitely recommend taking the leap if you're already considering.

For someone with zero prior coding experience like myself, the free online Data Science Bootcamp was a game changer. The content was challenging enough to get me to really push myself and work hard and learn a LOT by the end, but it wasn't as intimidating... Read More as to discourage me and make me give up at any point. I like how each new lab built on the previous one and things got more complicated very gradually and logically, so I never felt lost or frustrated during the process. The data and examples that were provided for each new exercise/concept were pretty intuitive and it wasn't until the very last few labs that things got very challenging and I found myself having to re-read and re-do each step multiple times before it really stuck. I think in addition to the great content of the prep course, someone with no prior Python/Data Science experience can use the Online Bootcamp to learn whether coding and Data Science is really something that fits their personality and whether they might like to commit to joining one of Flatiron's immersive Data Science programs and eventually pursuing a career in the field.

The admissions process was very seamless as well since everyone from Flatiron was very responsive, professional and helpful. After only the initial phone interview and a couple of e-mail exchanges with various Flatiron employees, you can quickly get a sense for how committed everyone in the community is to setting you up for success and making sure that their school/community is the right fit for you personally. I really appreciate all the individual help and attention that I got during the admissions process, which made me feel welcomed and enthusiastic to join Flatiron and embark on an exciting journey of intensive learning and making many new friends with similar interests and career goals!

For context, I have just recently been accepted to the Flatiron Data Science class and have no background in coding at all. I have completed the data science bootcamp prep and about 2/3 of the other bootcamp prep class. As coding is new to me I had tried... Read More several online intro classes (datacamp, codeacademy, udemy) and the Learn.co online class Flatiron has was by far the best. The courses really explained not just what was going on in the classes but why it is occurring which is very helpful for me. Additionally, the very accessible Community tab was by the most amazing feature which allows you to ask questions about the specific course you are working on and actual tutors and other students respond within seconds (sometimes minutes, longest wait time was never longer than 5 minutes). The people who always responded helped me walk through the problem instead of just typing the code solution, an amazing feature for a free online class. Every conversation I had with any of the admissions team went amazing they were very open and informative and answered every question that came up. Lastly, my favorite part of Learn.co experience is that it wasn’t so formal, there are graphics and jokes and pictures that make it a little more fun as you go along instead of just pages and pages of text. I am very excited to start the class after completing the online courses and going through the interview process.

2. It will be - hundred percent - some of the most grueling weeks of your life, and it will all be worth it. You will be tired, mentally stretched, but there is a sense of self-worth and happiness that comes as a result of that level of comitment and grit demanded of you.

3. It was the best decision of my life. I graduated recently and started my job search 3 weeks ago. I signed an offer this morning. I love who I am becoming because of my decision to go to Flatiron School.

The admissions process at Flatiron was seamless - I really enjoyed talking with both of my interviewers (the first is a simple meet and greet, the second is a technical interview). I am brand-new to coding but after following the technical track for JavaScript,... Read More I felt that I was well prepared for the technical interview. The learn.co courses are of two types - purely informational and coding labs. I feel that the information excels at explaining the basics - if you are brand-new, like me, you do not need to worry about jumping into something that might be over your head. Everything is explained very explicitly - not just the coding methods themselves, but even the programs and files that you use to do the labs, and how they work together. The labs begin simply enough, then quickly become more challenging - Flatiron uses a TDD (Test-Driven Development) philosophy (which they will explain at length - so don't worry if you don't know what that is) that I believe perfectly sets you up to be able to understand the labs and how to be successful. There is online support that is extremely helpful if you get stuck. I have been extremely pleased with my experience with Flatiron so far.

The instructors were always excellent, and looking back I'm surprised by how much I learned.
It's hard for me to believe that I'm a developer now, and I'm very grateful to the instructors, as well as the career coach which were super helpful.
They really know what they're doing!

Coursework is very thorough and the videos are great too. Wish there was a few more quizzes during certain sections to break up the reading and test what you've learned but the quizzes on there are great and the built in IDE for Learn is very useful.... Read More It took a second to get used to but very easy to use once you understand it. Overall, the best prep course I've done so far after trying out and paying for multiple ones from other bootcamp courses.

I have spent time on various online free web development courses, and this is by far the best one I have encountered.  I like the structure of going back and forth between reading about a topic, and then implementing your new knowledge.  It also builds... Read More very well, adding skills as you go along, allowing you to complete a whole project piece by piece, rather than just teaching a bunch of disconnected skills.  Additionally, instructors from FlatIron School are incredibly helpful if you get stuck, and super responsive.  I never waited for more than 2 minutes to get feedback or assistance, whether it was just a text chat or a screenshare to help me work through my problem.  I highly recommend this bootcamp prep course to everyone.  Even if you have no intention of going to a bootcamp, you will get something out of it!
