I can safely say that the Founders & Coders Boot camp, has been a thoroughly enjoyable, challenging and rewarding experience. Coming from a back ground in sales, whilst pursuing various online routes to learning how to build websites I became dis-enfranchised with being the lone ranger sitting at home. After attending the Monday evening meet-up sessions I began to take on the pre-requisites for the Boot camp after getting a feel for the environment I knew it was something that I wanted to be a part of. The course itself consisted of weekly tasked based learning in the form collaborative projects. Whilst the course is taught free of tuition there was no compromise on the quality provided. Throughout Founders & Coders we were encouraged to participate in pair programming and help one a...Read more
I've never learned as much in 3-4 months as I did at Founders&Coders. Thanks to the course, I managed to land a job as a Front-end developer in a very exciting startup in Norway. There is no chance I could have done this otherwise.
The course is also very social, so I made a lot of new friends. The F&C space is constantly filled with friendly, ambitious and interesting people.
To potential future students reading this: I'd recommend you to spend 100% of your time on the course. Most people need to spend more than the regular 9 to 5-hours in order to get to a good enough level within three months. Plus, get used to figuring out how to solve problems on your own. This is an important skill - both during the course (which is based around peer-to-peer learning) and after you've gradua...Read more
I knew I wanted to get into programming. But I didn't know what I should learn in order to get a job. And even if I did, teaching myself would be mega boring. Then I heard about Founders and Coders.
I have, quite literally, learnt more than I could ever have imagined in an incredibly short space of time. It's quite unbelievable - all of a sudden, half the techy/coding jargon floating around the internet isn't so foreign to me anymore. The command line is becoming second-nature. I'm empowered to have great ideas and be able to code them into reality. In short, Founders and Coders has given me exactly what I was looking for, without having to pay a penny. The organisers are lovely, and symbiosis of 'coding' and 'co-operative' works very well.

Founders & Coders offered me a chance to develop my interest in computers and web development into a full time career in a matter of weeks. After starting the 8 week course in January I went through what was probably the most intense and enjoyable two months of my life, spending each week working on a new project with my team-mates that would prepare us for some of the challenges we would face as web developers. After finishing the course I began working on short one or two week paid projects that helped serve as an introduction into the real world of development, with the option of extending contracts with the clients we enjoyed working with. This would not have been possible without the years of experience and industry contacts the F&C membership have.
The course is run almost excl...Read more
I have always been vaguely interested in programming. Everything I heard about it made it seem like it would be a good fit and that I would enjoy it. But exactly what I should be doing to develop understanding, competence and confidence as a programmer and developer was always obscure at best, and more concrete tasks would get priority.
Though the 8 week core ...Read more
Attending Founders & Coders was a life changer for me. Meeting people that are like-minded, willing to work hard and have a wide range of interests is beyond anything that I have seen so far. You will learn everything you need to code your own web app, or work as a full-stack web developer. The support system is incredible, you have numerous mentors around that will take any amount of time to explain, and help you out. The fact that admission is free adds a whole new dimension to the course, people there are willing to put in so much effort! Being part of that community also makes me feel confident, that whenever I encounter a problem in future I know whom to get back to for support and advice. Thanks a lot for the great time Founders and Coders!
I was looking for a coding bootcamp in London and found FAC, it was the best thing I could find anywhere in the UK. I applied immediately and was fortunate enough to get offered a place for the summer cohort. The course has been a fantastic experience and more than anything that I could have imagined. FAC have a unique approach where they group students into four groups of four and each group works on a challenging project each week. The curriculum is fluid, but very relevant - for example in week four we created a twitter clone complete with location based tweets. If you are thinking of joining a bootcamp course then I would highly recommend Founders and Coders.
- fast-paced - covers an immense amount of information in a short space of time (would've taken me years to learn it all on my own!)
- covers both Express and Hapi NodeJS frameworks
- focus on test driven development
- chance to build a new website every week in teams of 4 (8 portfolio websites at the end of the course!)
- great mentorship and support from experienced developers
- friendly, welcoming, non-judgemental atmosphere
- optional extra clubs to learn SaSS, Haskell, Swift and Raspberry Pi
I was drawn to Founders & Coders because a friend did the course last year and was very positive about the experience. Having been involved in cooperatives before, I was also interested in its cooperative working environment and commitment to widening access to web development. Overall I have had a great time on the course. It is tough, but I have learned so much over the course of the foundation programme that it surprises me. In the end, I have started to focus on a couple of platforms that interest me, as well as F&C's outreach and education efforts.
Six months ago I had never written a single line of HTML. This week I'm building a clone of Instagram.
At the beginning of the year, I spent a few months teaching myself how to code with online courses. Online courses are fun but there is only so much I could learn in isolation. A change of environment was needed because I want to be building full-stack software by the end of the year.
By the end of the first month at Founders & Coders, we were building things like twitter, from scratch, in a week. The amount and speed at which I am learning is incredible.
This is hands-down the most intense, rewarding learning experience I could have hoped for.
In two weeks time I am going to be paid to write full-stack software for a real client. I will be able to build the infrastructur...Read more
As a current student, I am frankly( (and pleasantly!) shocked at how much can be achieved in such a short space of time. At university, maybe you go to a lecture, and maybe you take notes, then maybe you read over those notes, and maybe you eventually understand something. When you learn with F&C you know you'll have to explain something you've just learnt to whoever's sitting next to you, and she'll have to explain something she's just learnt to you. So you really learn it - not just so you can understand it, but so you can explain it too. This model helps you get a deeper understanding of what you're learning, sure, but it also gives you a motivation that far exceeds purely self-driven studying. The sense of community and collaboration that springs up even after the first week means ...Read more
If you're serious about learning coding, then this is the place to be. These guys have a rigorous course that is challenging but ultimately extremely rewarding - you'll come out the other side immeasurably more knowledgeable.
The amazing thing is that the course itself is free. As a result, Founders and Coders have no incentive to take peoples' money upfront and then deliver a poor course. They need their graduates to be quality developers to keep going. It also means that they have no reason to take on unsuitable applicants simply because they're willing to pay - the end result is a group of extremely passionate and motivated people. The atmosphere is great. There is a lot of peer learning with everyone helping and supporting each other to make fast progress.

The group format and the project-based learning is awesome. Collaborating in a small group to achieve a goal is such an engrossing and brilliant environment to learn software development.
The course simulates real-world software development and prepares you to work with others, transfer you skills effectively and pickup new skills with ease.
When I left Founders and Coders, I was given a huge breadth of knowledge, but more importantly I had the tools to hand that meant I could learn anything: I knew where to start, I knew how to approach the problem, I knew where to look for answers. Honestly and truly, it's the best education I've ever had.
Founders and Coders motivated me to work harder than I ever have in my life. I found myself working non-stop because of a combination of the project based work and the electrifying energy in the room. The learning is completely immersive, you are dropped in at the deep-end and expected to swim. I have learned an unbelievable amount since I started with them, I was given the technical knowledge required to find paid work but also the wider organizational skills that go into running projects and small companies. Despite all the work and learning, I've made amazing friends there too.
Beyond the end of the course, Founders and Coders offers support in both finding work and in continuing to learn. They set out to help people learn as much as possible by setting up a space in which people...Read more
Founders and coders was transformative for me, an eight weeks of really tough fun that led me into a new mindset and career. The opportunity to invest so much time into such an interesting stack with like minded people was intensely rewarding, I was able to learn so much so fast collaboratively than I could have on my own. I've been working on a long term full stack project and continuing my growth the four months since graduating, it's been a blast.
Founders and Coders is a very good course. They do a phenomenal job of maximising their comparatively phew resources. Their group based cooperative model is, as far as I know, unique and impressively effective. I learnt more in eight-weeks at Founders & Coders than I have in any other eight-week period of my life.
As far as I know, Founders & Coders is the only free course of it's kind.
I came away from the course with a highly applicable set of skills. Straight away, I was able to start well-paid work as a developer, which is something I continue to do.
This course is for those who are serious about becoming a web developer.
It was seven months ago that I emigrated from Italy. I had a first in finance but that didn't mean much in London, where I was working as waiter for well below minimum wage. I was very close to going back home before I came across Founders & Coders. The course changed my life.
For eight weeks I worked incredibly hard, 80h a week. I learnt so much during this time and enjoyed it so much. The course gave me a highly applicable and practical skill set. At the end of the course Dan, who runs Founders & Coders, found a real project for me to work on. Four months later, I am a full-stack web developer, working on real projects, mentoring and running external workshops. I am currently working for a client, using service orientated architecture, and a host of advanced technologies.

This 8 week intensive course covers the skills and techniques needed to create your first website and is designed for novices who've always wanted to build a site but lack the skills or knowledge to do. I had a great time learning how to code at Founders and Coders. Many thanks to Dan, for letting me joining this amazing group of people. I am looking forward to use my skill in my career.
I had an amazing time at Founders and Coders. Dan is a great teacher and the people I met were fantastic. We learnt a hell of a lot for 8 weeks and came out the other end as pretty competent junior developers. I am now working in the industry, as a result of the course.
