I attended the 2015 Summer Academy and it changed my life. Before the summer academy, I had average background in CS from online courses. The outcome of the academy wasn't just iOS development; as the course content is free and open-sourced. We learned product development from idea to shipping. The instructors are top engineers who are fun and great people. I made a lot of friends there whom I am still in touch with. I gained a lot of experience talking to investors and entrepreneurs. Now, I am a Junior CS student who works part-time as a Mobile Developer at Toptal.
I attended the Make School Summer Academy in 2015 with codeacademy tutorials as my only coding background. The academy paved a way for me to get into programming, and I'm now working at a game development company. The instructors are really helpful and I made friends that I still keep in touch with to this day. Overall a fantastic summer experience!
Some of the pros were:
1) My classmates/the generally positive atmosphere: everyone was super supportive of each other and eager to learn; I never felt like I needed to kick into competitive mode around my fellow summer academy students
2) Our instructors were so helpful in making sure we stayed on track. I received advice on all topics, ranging from how multithreading works to tips on overcoming stage fright during a pitch.
I can't really remember many cons, other than that the tuition was a little steep. It would also be awesome to see some front-end/back-end development summer academy tracks in the future.
Yes, Make School is the future of computer science higher education. And yes, it is debt free. And yes, it has spectacular outcomes. But you already knew that by visiting the site....So, I am going to say some of the unique aspects Make School provides over any college or bootcamp!
First of all Make School is not a bootcamp. It is a college program that delivers on providing significant depth into topics but also breadth! There is a huge focus and expertise in iOS development, but there are opportunities to explore and dive deep into iOT, full stack web development, backend, scripting, AI, design, and many many more technical classes!
While technical classes are great and essential to landing a great development gig - they are not everything...and many schools and bootcamps fr...Read more
