I enrolled at Microverse in August last year(2022) and now have a job in August this year(2023). That is the long and short of it, but it was a great experience. Read More world of development where things are constantly changing and there's something new every day, the ability to learn something new and excel at it is a crucial skill and I believe Microverse helped me in that regard. The other thing I'd like to credit Microverse for is the structure it provided - having the morning session, doing your reading, coding with and without your partners, and the standup, it was great having that. I made life long from all corners of the globe and above all else, Microverse gave me the confidence and belief that I could get hired and paid a really good salary without a university degree.

I feel the curriculum is not strong, will not make one technically well equipped after the program. What you learn is very basic, most students have to spend time learning on their own after the program to land a job. The school has collaboration, pair... Read More programming etc as their USP, but it's all smokes and mirrors. Most students in UTC+1 batch have awful professionalism. I have seen some turn up to meetings half naked. In group projects, some disappear for days altogether, turn up at the end of the week and expect you to do all the work. Plagiarism is rampant. Even when reported, Microverse turns a blind eye, because they need the $15k from the offenders, so they take no action. Microverse expects integrity from it's students, they don't seem to have any. All my Capstone projects have been plagiarized, when reported, they did nothing. The offenders will now be using my projects for job search which I will be applying to. Your reviews about your awful coding partners will not be taken seriously. It will not be conveyed to the corresponding student, so they continue to progress through the program and ruin the experience for some other student. Can't wait to pay them back and severe ties. Won't recommend. For 15k you would expect some first class coding boot-camp experience, all you get is some third rate African boot-camp experience that hands out certification even if you didn't do any work.

Microverse is an excellent option for becoming Full Stack Web Developer remotely from your home and paying for it only after you land a developer job. Pros: 1) The program includes a great selection of languages and technologies. 2) Its 7 intensive months... Read More of tech learning and 3 for job-searching are better than the average program in the market. 3) Great support for the student to learn how to find a job (many hours dedicated to crafting a good resume, a good LinkedIn profile, interview practice, etc.). 4) Good operational platform. 5) The advantage of studying today and paying when you start working (the ISA), no matter where you live, is hard to find in other programs (except if you live in the country where the academy is based). 6) From day 1 you start coding projects with an international team using Scrum methodology and tools, just like if you are in a real job. Cons: 1) Although Microverse offers a free pre-course (level-up), the technical difficulty of the program is hard for people with no previous experience with coding (If this is your case, you better do some short courses and get some exposure to coding before starting). 2) Technical support for students is not very well developed yet (if you get stuck, you are not granted you'll get help from Microverse, and many times you're forced to get help from other students or team members...like in a real job, by the way). 3) Sometimes the lessons could be better curated. It's possible you can find better materials to learn with when you use Google. Considering all pros and cons, I think it is one of the best available remote options out there to become a developer with a high potential to get a job after graduating.

Incoming nearly 11,000 character review. Please excuse any typos! I'm going to be as thorough as I can. As you read this keep in mind that this entire program is self-driven. There are NO teachers. You are responsible for your education here so my experience... Read More may feel differently than your actual experience after you sign up (which I recommend that you do). I am an alum and I just landed my first job after the program. I must also say before I continue that I put in considerable amount of overtime every day... and I mean EVERY day during the curriculum. All that in mind - brace yourself. Here we go! Overall-5 stars: I give it 5 starts because I feel the curriculum really prepares you for a developer position. The CEO of Microverse (who we all interact with throughout the program!) describes their curriculum as an internship experience rather than a classroom experience. Today is January 4th, 2023 and I graduated a few months ago. Every week you are assigned 3 teams of individuals who you interact with daily: A morning team to kick-off your morning A learning team (usually 1 to 2 other people) who you meet after the morning team and again in the afternoon, and you discuss your learning goals OR you work with them together on your weekly project An evening team where you discuss your challenges and plans to succeed the next day. You average about 4 meetings a day and you are required to join them. Microverse does hold you accountable to your attendance to these meetings because this is supposed to simulate a job experience and plus... these meetings are designed to help you so just do them! Of course there is capacity to miss some here and there. We are human after all and Microverse respects this. They even work with you if you fail to meet the minimum attendance threshold provided that you give them details. This applies to all guidelines set in the curriculum. Anyway, each week you will likely have 1 or all of those teams re-assigned and you work with new people constantly. This is great because you develop a network of friends who, if you want, you can stay in contact with through the program and ask for help when you need it. I highly recommend that you do this. Me and some friends administered a WhatsApp group that started with 3 or 4 people and over time grew to nearly 50 students who all joined to support each other. It worked amazingly well. We even met on weekends and the student with the strongest understanding of the material would present on the past week's material and we'd do Q&A throughout the call . It was great! Final module projects and pair-program assignments are the experiences job interviewers love to hear about. Microverse taught us how to structure a plan to start and finish a project. You assign leadership/supporting roles, plan out what each person will be responsible for, and you meet regularly as you progress through the project. Throughout these project weeks a lot of code was reviewed by an experienced developer at certain milestones and the code review process is also something employers want to see experience with. I'll spare the specifics, but between the meetings above and what I just wrote, employers love hearing about all of this experience. You not only learn leadership, but you gain experience in taking ownership for parts of projects with your team. This is huge. All this being said, employers are assured that you're not just some new dev with absolutely 0 experience. Microverse really prepares you for what you're getting into. When I explained all of the above about my Microverse experience to my last interviewer they were very impressed. The curriculum claims it takes about 1,300 hours or so of total time to complete. With all the extra work I did through weekends and weekday after-program hours studying I spent about 1,600 hours total.... that is nearly a year (at least 10 months worth of experience) if I were working a full-time job 40 hours a week. That's almost 1 year of full-time experience right there. Not just 6-8 months. Curriculum-4 stars: This was hard to rate. The content trained me on what I needed to learn. I was able to read it and perform the coding requirements expected of me by the end of each week (MOST of the time). I managed to succeed every week and I was never held back because I failed to learn a topic. They did train me on practically everything I was asked in my last interview so I can't complain that the curriculum has any holes in what they try to teach you. It had tough moments though. Let me explain. The only issue is that tech is rapidly evolving. I have an example of learning a React package and we followed an example that was outdated. So I had to go to Reacts conversion documentation (for converting projects from version 5 to 6) and I had to go off curriculum to make the project work. I even set a meeting with a 7 year dev I knew from my personal life to look at my code because something was buggy and I couldn't find the answer. That sounds not like a good experience BUT that is what we will be doing on the job anyway. We need to develop the skills to research on our own because there will never be a situation where someone is spoon-feeding us everything when we don't know how to do something. I will say that the added stress of some outdated material combined with the tight deadlines on projects made it a very stressful time in certain situations. It was a stress that made it difficult for me to give all 5 stars. All in all though, I learned what I needed to learn, but I feel like certain lessons could either get a refresher OR better information could be provided. This last example about the React package I used in my last interview too, and my interviewer said it is a good example to demonstrate that I know how to be resourceful so.... could Microverse have updated that module? Sure, but I gained from the experience anyway so I'm trying to be fair. I mainly discount my 5 star review to 4 stars here because the curriculum is already very hard. I was under a lot of stress constantly, maybe too much at times due to a few outdated items during certain weeks combined with the occasional coding-partner who I may have been having some conflicts with, but this combination of issues was rare during the entire curriculum. Most lesson information was extremely relevant and up to date. Many tough situations gave me good examples of what to talk about as success stories in my interviews. Again, I learned what I needed to so don't let this scare you. Just be aware you need to really develop your skills at researching. Remember, you're on your own! Well... you're alone until you make friends in the program :) *MAKE A WHATSAPP GROUP!* *cough* Ahem... Where was I? Job Support: This is another tough area to rate, but I absolutely had to give it 5 stars and here is why: When I graduated I felt really unsure of myself. We all did. Imposter Syndrome is real and it hits hard. I felt I was not truly ready and it took me a while to really start firing out applications. I gave myself a few weeks (I was traveling to weddings and many other things) but during those weeks I remade some projects, brushed up on material I had forgotten or needed practice with and I started submitting applications finally. ..*dramatic pause*.. Absolutely no one gave me a shot for months. Nobody at all. No one even asked to interview me. I had met my career coach a handful of times during the process and she was awesome. She made me feel confident that this was fine and expected and I just needed to keep pushing. So I did. Eventually I became very frustrated that absolutely no one would even interview me. Why wouldn't they even tell me no? Is my resume bad? Are my websites bad? Am I not handsome enough in my LinkedIn profile picture? :( Here is why I gave 5 stars though. I reached out to my coach, I spoke with her for an hour and talked about the lack of interest I was receiving from companies I applied to, my lack of confidence since I can't even get an interview to see where I'm at, and I told her about areas where I needed support in terms of my overall knowledge. I am so glad I did that because she snapped into action. She provided me great resources to focus on and completely redesigned my resume with a way better look and better verbiage. She got me in touch with an actual developer at Microverse who met me once (sometimes twice) a week to coach me on the areas I was weak in, and my coach connected me with another Microverse employee who needed a developer in my country to fill a job he knew about. That other contact coached me for the position, prepared me to succeed, and when he had total confidence in me he referred me for the job. I was so well-prepared for the interview that I crushed it and I have accepted my offer TODAY. YES! The hardest part of the job portion was sending out those lonely applications into the recruitment abyss and most of the time getting a disturbing amount of nothingness back - not even rejections. When I call it an abyss... just think about the most infinite nothingness of a black hole that you can imagine and that is what it felt like I was throwing my applications into, but when I communicated to Microverse that I needed help they really took the time to do literally everything they could do between providing resources, to live calls with their developers, and placing me in contact with people from their coaches' networks. All of that got me a job. I went from having my first real interview into my first official job offer. I mean.. WOW. How can I not give 5 starts to that? Side note about the Job Support. During all of this job hunting, I saw through their social media channels that they had seminars that alums can join that are intended to prep alums while they job search. I didn't know they existed without some digging, but I signed up for as many as I could and the extra material is really helpful and provided by various departments at Microverse. Microverse does honestly try to help you. Yes, I still did have to do a ton of work individually and I had to research to find some of their extra supporting material, but once I showed my commitment and asked for help I got the supplemental support I needed to regain confidence and finally get a job. Final statement: I hope this helps you make your decision to join Microverse. The experience is what you make of it. I did my best to have faith in the curriculum and make every effort to succeed. At the end I was rewarded for my effort. For those who have an unwavering commitment to their future then this really is the program for you. Just really pay attention to the time commitments they ask of you. Be prepared to study for long days until the end of the curriculum. Read More and working with people from all around the world is also a great advantage, so it helps to learn the different approaches to thinking which is a very valuable skill in problem-solving. And the cons sometimes the program takes more than 10 hours when learning or working on the projects this does not allow you to mix the program with a part-time job, you can manage but It can be very difficult to manage both, and also before joining the program you have to have enough found to support your needs since it is difficult to combine the program with a part-time job, in case the unexpected happens to your found you will need to drop out to fix this since you cannot combine other programs with microverse. But I will end up by saying it is an amazing journey with its ups and downs, but we have a lot of advantages by joining microverse, such as meeting with people from all over the world, an amazing community always there to help and a very helpful student success team which always helps student in any problem they encounter in other to keep them following the program!
