SecureSet Academy

I recently completed the CORE program at the Colorado Springs Campus. Prior to starting this course my cyber security background was very limited. First and foremost, if you decide to take part in this program know that this is not a part time endeavor, prepare yourself to put in the work.

Our cohort was primarily made up of veterans with varying levels of experience in cybersecurity. I cannot stress how instrumental the entire cohort is to your overall success. I am extremely grateful to all my team members for the help throughout the course. A typical week would consist of classes Monday through Friday 8:30 to 4:30 with a couple of hours of home study and at least half a day on Saturday to complete all course work.

Take Scott Bowman's advice. Anything job search related is what he does best. and honestly, his Advice would have been worth at least half of the HUNT program's tuition.

Matt, Alan, JC are extremely technical and know what they are talking about. And additionally they have great personalities that make going to class for 10 weeks, 8 hours a day bearable, and typical enjoyable.

I attended the Prep Course and the Hunt Analyst Program in Tampa. I came to SecureSet with a Bachelors degree and several years of work experience that were not in IT or Computer Science. I had been interested in cybersecurity for a long time, but did not know how to break into the industry. Despite being a novice, I received a job offer prior to graduation and am currently working in the field. I could not have done this without the opportunities SecureSet provided to me. Hi, I wanted to provide an honest, fair review of SecureSet Academy. They are based in Denver, CO and I graduated from the HUNT course in June 2018.

First, let me describe my previous IT experience and where I was going in developing an InfoSec career. I had been out of the IT field for nearly 20 years. I decided to use my Post 9/11 GI Bill to attain another degree and went for cybersecurity. While I was taking those courses, I found SecureSet Academy on MeetUp. I attended their Info Nights, Guest Speaker MeetUps and CTFs. I thoroughly enjoyed those evenings and learned so much! SecureSet instructors are great at starting you with the basics before moving to more advanced topics. As a novice in the cyber realm with no previous work experience or education in the field, I am now weighing great job offers between two huge cyber companies. SecureSet Academy is a great resource in terms of academics, instructors, campus, and social scene. I transferred from my military to the civilian life while studying at SecureSet and it was definitely the right decision. A lot of direct practical experience with different software, Operating Systems, "hacking" tools, case study, and a lot of work, but manageable. It was definitely an intense cyber boot camp for a only 6 month period. Overall, great experience.

If you are not prior/active military, the benefits of this course are few, and in NO way justify the cost. Zero hands-on, TONS of time spent on things you already know if you have any common sense. You could honestly type in “what is Cybersecurity” into a YouTube search, and watch any 20 minute video and receive the same amount of knowledge. I was very green when I attended the course, so most of the issues I had with it at the time I chalked it up to me being so inexperienced. Now that I know more of the industry and what is required, it is absolutely disgusting to charge $12k for what is provided. Not to mention my class in particular was very unorganized and incomplete (to which they said “well hopfully the next class we have runs better”). They stress the inportants of certification...

Coming up on just over a year working for great company I cannot help but be amazed on how graduating from the CORE program at SecureSet impacted my life! I would have never been able to land my perfect job without the help of SecureSet Academy. Not only did they help ease my transition from military life to civilian life, but they also gave me the tools needed to succeed. SecureSet Academy expertly fills the gap needed, to gain the knowledge required in the Cyber Security field.
As a recent 2018 graduate, I have learned a great set of skills, by applying discussed theory in hands-on lab environments. Above all, I was impressed with the faculty and the dedication they possess towards their students.

Working hands on with some of the best minds in the industry, versatile , deep technical curriculum rounded of with a friendly staffing group keeping everything together. Recommended for anyone with in intrest

This school is well rounded with academia and hands on training. Instructors are willing to work one on one as well as having classmate group sessions. I do recommend you practice python on your own if you do not have any programming experience.

The skill set I gained from secure set was phenomenal. The teachers are extremely inelegant and want to see you learn and succeed. The curriculum takes you from beginner and gives you a great foundation to build on no matter what field you choose to move into afterwards.

The HUNT Analyst program at SecureSet exceeded my expectations. The instructors are all very knowledgeable and make the long hours go by quickly! It’s a great program for someone wanting to transition from another field into cyber security, like I was. It is a lot of hard work with many exhausting hours spent learning & studying inside and outside of the classroom, so it helps if you’ve already been to college because you probably already have the work ethic that it takes to succeed in the program. I also really appreciate the support staff (Patty & Scott) who encourage everyone to network and start the job search early. It paid off for me! I was offered a great position in cyber security before I even graduated!

The instructors that were at Secureset we’re some of the best in the field and provided top notch instruction.

Great environment for learning and enough opportunities for networking and getting to know others in the field were ample.

The curriculum could use a little work aligning the modules from one course to another. This was being worked as we were graduating and I am hopeful that Dr. Borders will do his best and get the curriculum where it needs to be.

The instructors were very knowledgeable, the support staff were engaged with the students on a regular basis. The curriculum could use some changes, but those in charge seem open to suggestions. This course prepares you for taking those next steps to becoming a cyber security professional.

Better off attending university

I attended Secure Set Cyber Academy from January to June of 2018. Originally, my intention was to get a general exposure to cyber theory and threat to add to my analyst experience. However, after receiving the hands on experience with the Secureset instructors, I realized I had sold the capabilities of the education experience short. Bit by bit I was noticing that cyber job requirements and descriptions online were more tangibly attainable and that if asked questions in a professional interview, I would be confident in my ability to provide a professional and technical answer. The combination of outstanding career services and technical education has allowed me to plot out a path to a successful future in Cyber Security.

When a career in the military is being cut short, there is no telling what the future would hold. I was at a loss of what I would do next when I became a free man. SecureSet gave me not only the technical background but also the skills to interview and obtaining a career. The program was really fast paced and I often found myself falling behind or not understanding something. The staff were always willing to assist when needed. Without this program, I may not have been able to do well when interviewing with Amazon. I was able to secure an awesome opportunity with so much room for growth. At this point of my life, I feel like I am where I need to be.
