Garrett Kadillak RocketU was really a life changing experience. The course is very intense (expect 10-12 hour days) but you really do learn so much in 3 months. What I really enjoyed about the course was the fact that we learned more than just JavaScript. There is a decent amount of prework to be done which includes the command line, the basics of the internet (internet vs. the web, web server, etc), web development terms (websites vs. web applications, frontend vs. backend, etc.), and it touches briefly on programming concepts. Taking the prework seriously is the key to success at RocketU. You are also expected to build a simple static website before the class starts just to start putting the pieces together (more specifically, it's a github.io page) and present your work the first day of class. The class moves very fast but the teachers are very attentive to making sure that everybody is on the same page in their learning. The course structure is essentially small lecture and then exercises which students are chosen to randomly present their solutions to. I just graduated from the Fall 2014 class and I had a blast. There was really so much that I didn't even know about that really opened my eyes to this entire universe of the internet which is fascinating to me. On top of that, my skills are at another level just after 3 months. The environment is fantastic being in the middle of Rocket Space and all of the start ups that make up the ecosystem there. There are minimum 2 networking events every week (Wednesday and Friday) along with breakfast provided, lunch sometimes (when there is a speaker that comes in). Rocket Space is also in the heart of the financial district so getting to any of the amazing meetups happening in the city is within walking distance. Just an overall fantastic experience. Highly recommended.
