Front End Developer Immersive

Cost: $13,999
Duration: 12 weeks
Locations: St. Louis
In-person Only
Course Description:

Among the most promising and fastest growing skills in the United States, Software Development jobs are growing at a rate of 17% according to the U.S Department of Labor and Statistics. With this growth comes a tremendous shortage of qualified applicants to fill over 400,000 new developer positions each year. In 2020, it is predicted that there will be over 1.5 Million positions that remain unfilled. (Source: US Bureau of Statistics). According to data from StackOverflow, JavaScript is the most popular Web technology, in use by nearly 70% of Professional Developers. This is not a surprise, as according to a Web Technology Surveys Report, JavaScript is used by over 95% of all websites as of June 2019. Claim Academy helps to address that unmet demand for programmers by providing training that empowers our students to step right in to the industry as entry-level programmers. Our 12-week or 20 weeks part time course in Full Stack Javascript covers the principles of developing in industry-standard environments using Agile methodology and RESTful Web Services.

"Best decision"

I went into Claim with no coding background and came out with more than I thought possible. Ola believed in me, the insructors and the staff were dedicated, and my classmates helped to make my time here that much more awesome. This experience didn't come... Read More

"Good experience, great instructors"

Claim Academy was an excellent learning experience. We all had different backgrounds and experience levels, and the curriculum and the instructors adapted to handle that variety so that we all learned from the course. The instructors were both knowledgeable... Read More

It's a bit early to fully evaluate the job assistance, but that has been excellent so far. We have been provided interview coaching and excellent resume instruction and review. Our career coach does not specialize in technology jobs, but the other instructors are happy to fill in any gaps.

The few things that detracted from the experience are either issues that already have resolutions for future courses (for example, new financial aid opportunities will reduce the likelihood that courses will be delayed), or things that will improve as time and resources allow.

Overall, Claim Academy was a good experience, and I'm glad I attended.

"I changed my career due to Claim Academy"

The instructors at Claim Academy were the best part about the course. They were extremely helpful and kind to me and all of the other students. I knew next to nothing before the class, but they did not seem frustrated or angry with me at any point. My... Read More

"Please do not waste your money here!"

Learn more for less? Is complete bull crap! Claim Academy is a complete waste of $$$. My SO had went through the .net program and I have to say it was a complete waste of 8k! He saved and quit his job to take this course to learn and gain more experience... Read More

On top of that, I'm really upset that everyone in the .net program got a scholarship except for him! How is that even possible? He's a very bright person and is way smarter than most of the people in his class! He had to explain problems to his classmates multiple times because they didn't understand! When someone interviews you for a scholarship what do you think of? Apparently it was an actual interview with a company. Their scholarships program is that you are guaranteed a job after the program and you're technically still paying for it since they take the 8k from your salary.

Anyways, there were a few instructors....1/3 actually cared (Alan's style of teaching is great and he showed interest in teaching) vs the other 2 instructors could care less. They were just there to be there to get paid. Some days instructors didn't even show up! Ummm hello?! We are spending a lot of $$$ to get good education and you can't find a replacement? As the previous yelper stated...8k for a 12 week course is expensive.

Overall, if you know nothing about .net this course maybe for you. But if you have experience or know it's course then I would save your $$$ and go to a real school. Claim Academy does not provide any certifications or guaranteed jobs without scholarships.

"Glad some of the students are getting value out of the course. Instructors aren't."

It has been over a half year and contracts still haven't been fulfilled. If you're not paying your instructors, do you think they are going to care about their quality of instruction? Claim is a clever idea but so poorly executed that I pity anyone who... Read More

"Good experience, still needs work."

I was a member of the first .NET cohort, so it's possible things are different now than they were when I was there. Overall, this was a good experience for me. I was not happy with my current job and really wanted a change, and this opportunity came up,... Read More

We had three teachers that were excellent and one who just wasn't particularly well-suited to teaching, but he ended up parting ways after not real long anyway. The curriculum was a little scattered, but I also allow that this is kind of an impossible field to cram into three months. I think they really did their best and it's certainly no fault of the teachers.

The process for placing graduates is I believe different now than it was when I was there, but when I was there the process needed work. I don't believe doing this course is 100% guaranteed to land anyone a job, but what I did here definitely helped me get my current position. I still had to do a lot on my own to find a job--Claim did help as much as they could but when I was there it seemed like they were still working on establishing the proper contacts.

For anyone considering this, it's a lot of work and you have to be really self-motivated. Consider the monetary cost and definitely also explore other options, and realize what you'll be getting into. This course isn't perfect but it's a good option if you're certain that a coding bootcamp is the way you want to go and you want to stay in the St. Louis area.
