I completed Code Institute's 13 week Full Stack developer bootcamp in April 2016. Before applying to Code Institute, I did quite a bit of research on bootcamps in both Ireland and the UK. The three key reasons I believe I made the best choice in going with Code Institute are as follows:
1. The course content is driven by industry/ employer demands:
Code Institute have an Industry Advisory Council (IAC) made up of a number of industry experts and employers who they meet with regularly to discuss the skills and technologies being sought in industry. The course content is developed to align with industry demands - meaning that the languages and frameworks covered on the course are relevant to current job opportunities. For this reason, a high percentage of past students of the bootcam...
I came to Code Institute with no knowledge of coding whatsoever and within 3 months had a good enough portfolio to get me hired as a Software Dev within only a few weeks. The course was challenging and rewarding in equal measure and is a great opportunity for anyone wanting a career change, a fresh challenge or the chance to solve problems on a daily basis.
Cannot recommend it enough, it was a truly life-changing experience for me. Worth every cent.
I can't say enough about support I have received. I started back in 11/2015 and I should finish by now, but due to unforeseen personal circumstances I'm still trying to finish it. All I can say is to be honest with your mentor and student care team. And the most important thing-don't be afraid to ask for any help. They are really great bunch of people!
I am enjoying the chance to learn coding with a team of people who are using this code daily in work practice. The Online content makes it much easier for me to still work during the day and study from home. The availability and allowance to contact a mentor really makes me feel reassured that I'm not on my own in this course.
Only cons are that I have to work 9 to 5 when I'd prefer to be learning. It's difficult for me to make contact during the day time how ever emailing is readily available throughout the evening.
I have enrolled in the online course last October and since day one everyone in the Code Institute is absolutely supportive, patient and 100% professional! It is quiet challenging course to undertake ,especially if you're brand new to all of the coding same as me but there's no need for worry as there's always someone to turn to for advice or help!
- Great learning material (good mixture of writing and images)
- Provision of additional resources to gain further in-depth knowledge on the material
- Well structure learning
- Can learn in your own time
- Mentors readily available to help
- A great forum where other students can ask questions and share ideas on topics learnt within the course.
- A lot of information top get through due to the 'bootcamp' nature of the course
After having great experience withe the introductory webinar, I immediately felt more confident in trying something new so I arranged for a consolation. Unfortunately all the times I was called i was unable to answer, but the team were resilient, patient and worked around my busy schedule to accommodate a call. After a great hour or so talking about what Code Institute had to offer and offer off topic things, I was ready to take the plunge and sign up.
IT as a subject was just beginning to take off when I was in my final years at school. I was lucky to have made a start within the industry, but it was a tentative experience at best. In the three decades since, I have always managed to maintain a healthy knowledge of IT, but in what others might consider to be an outside experience. In 2005, I managed to do some study for web and media design which, at the time, I thought would my way to get into the industry that I wanted to be a part of.
I'm currently undertaking the mentored online course which I commenced May 2016. I have really enjoyed my learning experience so far, mentored online gives me the flexibility to learn at a pace suited to me whilst being able to work around day to day life. The LMS and course content is current and always being updated and finely tuned. The only con is that online learning also allows you to sometimes become lost and a little unmotivated but the student care team and your mentor are always to help you keep on track. I'd highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to enter into the coding world.
I have tried several online learning offerings over the last two years and the Code Institute has been the best. Course content is in-depth without being overwhelming. You don't ever feel like you're being rushed through a topic before you've grasped it. The support staff are just fantastic - so friendly and helpful. And the community of students are amazing. There is always someone online ready to chat or cast a helpful eye over a problem you're having. The whole package is just so encouraging for someone who is taking a massive leap into the unknown. Only reason for 4 stars on curriculum and job support is that I'm only part way through the course yet. But if it matches what I've experienced so far they'll need 5 stars all the way.
I've been learning at the Code Institute for around 4 months now and I'm really enjoying it. The course is great - the course materials are quite detailed and get you to start coding and building web pages from the get go and from the ground up - it takes you through the whole process right down from the basics up to more complex structures. One thing to keep in mind is that it's really down to you to stay motivated and study on a regular and consistent basis, but if that's not a problem for you, then this is a great course for getting into web development. I would thoroughly recommend this course to anyone who wants to start a career in web design and has an interest in this field.
I initially contacted a company called 'The learning people' asking about jobs and courses in coding. Within no time they had got back to me and provided me with all the information I need to make and informed decision on which courses they provided would be the best suited to me. They were not pushy and really seemed to care about my choice and offered a lot of advice and feedback to all my questions. The course that I signed up for though them with 'Code Institute' has been brilliant from the word go. You are contacted before you start and given plenty to get you on your way even before the beginning of the course. You are assigned a mentor who you can contact with any coding problem and they are always friendly and happy to help. The course content is very well thought out, teaching ...Read more
Pros: Extremely flexible with regarding time and workload. It's up to you how to set up your learning experience. The lessons are well detailed and the content goes in depth enough to be able to develop a good working understanding of what is going on, with links to good resources for further reading/learning. I also like the choice of subject matter for each module, for example choosing AngularJS, Python and MongoDB as languages/frameworks to learn over other choices. Best of all is the mentoring system though. All of the mentors I've had have been extremely helpful and knowledgeable in their feedback, and they are pretty much always accessible when needed. The slack community is great too and there is lots of chance to get to know other like-minded people on the course who help each ...Read more
With the front-end content I have learned on the course so far, makes the development in work so much easier than it should be for a junior.
The code examples are clear, the explanations are easy to follow.
The constant contact and tutor support is fantastic.
I find this course to be miles ahead of any others I have looked at, or even completed in the past.
Ever since I started this course, I can't stop opening my laptop on my free time and do some progress on the course because the programme is very straight forward and will immediately engage you to code. The good thing as well with the programme is, I feel like I am playing and every unit challenges me a lot. Well done guys!! I'm proud I'm in. :)
So when i started this i was sceptical there are so many out there, but the journey been fantastic from start to now, and i'm only on module 1.
Support is great and a good boost when it's needed! People are always willing to help out even if its not tech related. And the content is easy to read and understand.
This boot-camp is like Mountaineering, stretches all your muscles (mental and emotional in this case), the journey is really tough, but with fellow student, mentors and support from institute it becomes easy and worthwhile. I am hoping to be on top of the mountain and being amazed with the view (achievement). The Projects are really world examples and tools used are very current with their own mysteries. If you expert to master anything then you are mistaken, this is a journey that will continue even after the boot-camp (still have to come down from the top of one mountain and deal with another mountain).
I must say I was sceptical about the programme not only because I was new to coding but also because I never studied online before. I was worried about whether this programme will be as valuable and relevant as it was advertised. Now only a few weeks in the programme I'm more confident and determine to complete the software development programme. I'm very much impressed by the professionalism of people and quality learning materials. To date I have been introduced to many tools, many coding languages, many platforms for collaborative working and am well on my way towards my goal of contributing to knowledge economy.
My experience at Code Institute so far is a very good one. My work hours tend to extend to more than 45 hours a week and for a while, I had to travel between Germany and the U.K which meant that I would sacrifice a little over two months from my Mentored Online Programme due to the lack of time but my mentor and people in charge of the online programme were very forgiving and supportive and simply gave a window of time to get back to a more regular schedule.
I am still at the beginning of Stream One of the Front End part of the course but I believe that this is the right choice for professionals with limited time on their hands but willing to make a change in future.
Attending this course for me is an exciting journey, it's allowing me to gain a skills, i've been interested in for a while to help me on my way to change my career path to become a junior developer. Without having to drop everything, i've been able to work part time and complete the course.
The content is relevant and realistic to real life job briefs, and the content is updated to fit with what is current. It's easily accessible and convenient!
The whole staff are great at helping out with ideas, networking opportunities, resources and anything you could need help with really.
I haven't fully finished the course yet but I've already completed a website for a small business that I'm very proud of, and have other projects in the works too. I've also started volunteering as a technical Mentor with the Coder Dojo (which I'd never even heard of before starting with The Code Institute - but I love it and am learning so much.)
Since starting this course my whole life direction has changed for the better and it's opening up opportunities that were simply not available to me before hand. Great course, great staff, great help, great mentors. I highly recommend to anyone.
I started the Full Stack Developer programme last year with no prior knowledge or experience of coding and to be honest I was nervous about starting. I had previous knowledge of basic computing and Microsoft packages which definitely helped a little. The programme starts with teaching the basics and rapidly builds on what you have learnt, I would in no way say it was easy if you are inexperienced but with a little effort and some guidance you will be amazed at what you can create in a relatively short period of time; a few months in and my confidence had increased tenfold. The programme also provides really good links to other resources which will assist you in your studies so that as well as learning a new subject you are directed to alternative sources of information which are invalu...Read more
The course is easy to follow and takes you from a complete novice to a job ready developer. Most lessons are accompanied with challenges that get you practicing the content which really helps with understanding. If you get stuck there's a friendly online community of students and mentors always there to help. The course has been really informative so far, I've learned things I thought I would never be able to get my head around, I'm about half way through and feel confident I can build a simple website already with a few complex features. If you want to learn web development this is a really great course, I'd recommend it to anyone who wanted to get into the industry. Also I've had really good professional service from the code institute team. They really take care of their students.
I love learning, but web coding is something that is best to learn by doing rather than just reading - that way it "sinks in". I think so far (and I have only been on the stream zero module for about three weeks) that I have started to understand more than I ever did by trying to just read books about coding. And it is way more fun! I still have a long way to go, but I would recommend online courses to anyone - not only are they interactive (making it interesting to learn) but you can access them anywhere and anytime making them flexible to work around your schedule.
I've been learning with the Code Institute since the end of February and am already in the process of building my own website for assessment. I knew nothing about web development when I started, but the course has allowed me to learn all aspects of coding required to get started, and provides further resources should I wish to delve deeper! Its been a steep learning curve as I've opted to study at home full-time, but there is access to a community of other learners should I fund myself struggling. I'm looking forward to learning more about what happens behind-the-scenes as the course progresses!
