Google Summer of Code is a global program focused on introducing students to open source software development. Students work on a 3 month programming project with an open source organization during their break from university.
As a part of Google Summer of Code, student participants are paired with a mentor from the participating organizations, gaining exposure to real-world software development and techniques. Students have the opportunity to spend the break between their school semesters earning a stipend while working in areas related to their interests.

I started my programming journey through self teaching in order to make video games. I found I wasn't good at it so I went back to school at the community college. There I heard that LaunchCode was offering a Python class which turned out to be the first iteration of their LC101 class. And I would like the time to mention how receptive LaunchCode is to feedback. In my spare time I work as TA for LC101 and the course has changed dramatically since took it in 2016. What hasn't changed is the quality of information, and skills they give students. They work tirelessly to give people a job in tech. I cannot speak for their other education programs or about coming to them with the skills employers are looking for but not a way to apply for job but I am sure they offer the same level of excell...Read more
