I'd wanted to take a coding course to make a career change for a long time. I deliberated for a long time before taking on Northcoders, but finally decided to take the plunge after attending one of the coding evenings and talking to the tutors and staff.... Read More I'm not mathematically minded and did find the concepts to be challenging at first, but the staff took the time to talk over key concepts and gave more practise in areas where you needed more help. The key takeaway from the course is that it gives you a great foundation to learn other languages and adapt to different development environments. You won't come out of the course an expert, but you'll come out as an adaptable and flexible developer. I met some great people on the course, some of which I'm still in touch with. All in all, it was a great experience and never could've imagined I'd come out of the other end job ready and having built some great projects. I only wish that the post course job support was stronger in my region (South Yorkshire), but I believe this will be changing in the future.

Northcoders was an excellent experience, from start to finish. From my application I was constantly in contact with the team, they supported me through my entry challenge and provided plenty of pre-course material which meant we were all at the same starting... Read More point on the first day of the course. The course is very intense and each day provided new challenges, with individual and paired sprints. The curriculum is well designed, starting with the fundamentals before moving onto back-end and front-end. The lectures we really useful and provided a lot of information to then be used on the following sprints.

All of the tutors were extremely helpful and no problem was ever too much hassle. They really helped us to solve problems we were having without ever actually giving us the answers. At the end of each block it was amazing to look back and see how much progress we had made in such a short time, something I was never able to achieve self-learning at home. The final phase of the course is the project phase, this at first seemed to be the most daunting but we soon realised that we were well prepared, and in our project group (4 of us) we designed built and tested a project far beyond anything that I expected or would have dreamed of before the course. With no intervention and being left in a work environment we were able to put all the knowledge we learned over the previous 9 weeks and come up with a finished product we were all extremely proud of. This final stage left us with really good experience and ideas that really match up with how the industry works which has been a huge benefit in my career post-course.

The whole course is geared towards how things work in the industry and so it really prepared us for life in the working world, nothing was a surprise and I've been able to settle in and hit the ground running. The careers team were great and really supportive and gave me plenty of advice and the course and tutors went above and beyond in preparing us for the work-place. Because of this I was able to accept an offer as a Software Developer within 5 working days of finishing the course, which was incredibly fast.

Northcoders is a great experience, in the 6 months since I applied I have gone from a novice programmer to an exciting career as a Software Developer at a big mobile company. I've also made plenty of good friends many of whom I am now working with in my new role. I couldn't recommend it more.

This course is not easy and they don't pretend it is. However it is worth every ounce of blood, sweat and tears! I started northcoders not knowing what to expect but hoping I would learn new skills that could lead to a career ... what I received was so much more. I did learn so much and I have found a new career, but northcoders has also given me the confidence... Read More to believe I am capable of more than I thought I was. It has given me the chance to provide for my child and to be an example that your can achieve anything when you put your mind to it. There was so much encouragement and support available to everyone on the course not only while your attending, but also once you graduate. The tutors and staff genuinely care about the students and are always there to give you help and advice when you need it. I am excited to see where my future leads.

I spent three months with a group of 10 other lovely people, learning how to code. Despite the hard work, I never dreaded Monday morning - in fact, I often looked forward to it.
10 days after graduating I had an offer for more than the average graduating... Read More salary, which I accepted - And it says something that out of my graduating group, I was one of the later ones to get a job. Big shout out to the amazing career team - the level of help from them is insane.

I completed this course over the summer of 2018 as I was unhappy in my career choice and wanted to try something new. Read More the right job for me, which I'm now extremely happy with. The atmosphere is friendly and welcome to all skill and experience levels. I honestly could not recommend it enough for anyone wanted to start out in a career in coding. Plus, you get to live in Manchester for three months! Total win.

Having a great time at Northcoders - everybody, students and tutors are all lovely and helpful - and there's a great, productive atmosphere. There's plenty of socials so you can get to know everyone. The curriculum is pretty up-to-date as far as I'm aware,... Read More and they're always updating it. Work comes in two-day sprints, where you're randomly paired with another person from your cohort and complete small projects to learn new tech on-the-job. The amount of knowledge I've gained over the past months is incredible, I'd never have been able to get to this point by myself without the direction of the programme and support from tutors and peers. My only criticism (if you can call it that) is because of the curriculum changes so fast, every so often a cohort is the first to do something, and so they're effectively 'guineapigs' for new sprints, so not everything goes to plan - they haven't yet worked out exactly where students usually trip up or get a bit confused. But I haven't yet come across a sprint that by the end of it, I haven't learned anything. Really recommend this programme.
