Before attending Tech Talent South I had was completely confused as to how to go about learning to code. Although these sites provided questions and answers, I still was lacking a thorough understanding of the how and why of coding and needed to be in class learning with peers. The initial experience as painless, I ended up applying for the Women in Tech Scholarship program and the next day was contacted by Tech Talent South and told that I was approved. Katie asked so valuable questions as to why was I even interested in coding and as I told her, "There are no many coders where I'm from, that look like me and I wanted to help change that!" So, just like that, I was processed and ready to for class.

The Code Immersion Course is brutal but necessary. We dove right into coding and learning data structures. My instructor was helpful but firm on each individual learning themselves. One thing that stood out was how he emphasized: "My goal is to teach you how to learn!" I really appreciated that concept because with coding the most important part is learning how to solve everyday programs. The hardest thing was putting aside everything taught in college (particularly thinking analytically) and learning to break things down into more basic instructions that the computer can interpret. Overall, my experience was great...I wouldn't trade it in for the world!

Not to mention, Cassandra, the community organizer has remained very helpful and informative throughout the entire process and still remains a valuable resource!

I was not disappointed. The content was substantial, the pace was brisk, and both the instructor and the community organizer were amazing. In addition to the excellent subject matter presentation, we visited local tech companies and had a constant stream of speakers involved in some aspect of tech work in our community. The insights gained on these occasions were very helpful in understanding how the components of our curriculum fit into the bigger picture of web development as a whole. I found the information gleaned and contacts made through these activities to be a valuable addition to the program.

The only area in which the curriculum was light was JavaScript, but I understand that time constraints force you to scale down somewhere. Overall I was very pleased with my experience and would recommend TTS highly.

He is awesome and is always "reaching back" to make sure all in the class have an understanding of the material. The pace is rigorous and the work challenging, but both lead to a more competent professional. There is more than classroom experience available through Tech Talent South. There are several opportunities along the way to volunteer, along with being able to benefit from many dynamic guest speakers and interesting company tours, arranged by our incredible Community Organizer, Cassandra. I tried teaching myself coding on my own. There are certainly enough resources available online to do so but nothing beats face to face interaction for guidance and motivation. The hardest part is the pacing (which I imagine is the case with all coding boot camps). There is so much to learn in such a short period of time and even that is only scratching the surface. There were some nights where I spent more than six hours trying to solve a homework problem and times in class where I felt like I was drowning. But every time I was lost there was someone there help me find the way whether it was the instructor, a TA, or one of my classmates.

Tech Talent South gives you all the tools you need to succeed and as long as you are willing to put in the time and effort you too can experience great success!

His attention to detail was top notch . I was especially impressed with his style of guiding us to answers rather than just giving the answers to us. I was ready for a career change and the opportunity to participate in this boot camp came along at the perfect time. Coding was new to me and totally out of my comfort zone. Our instructor, Nick, was always available to help and the in-person support that he provided was invaluable. Our community organizer, Amber, put together an amazing group of presenters from the tech community in Asheville.

After using all of the major websites to teach myself how to code, I was looking for a physical human being to walk me through some of the more difficult concepts. My requirements were that it had to be cost effective, small classes, and close to where... Read More I live. Tech Talent South checked all of those boxes for me. My instructor, Joe, is fantastic. He has a really unique way of presenting really difficult material in a fun way and he's hyper passionate about Ruby. He has a full-time job that I'm sure pays him fairly, yet he gives up 4 hours of his evening twice a week to teach. If that's not passion, I don't know what is. Don't get me wrong, the class is a whirlwind of information and it can be overwhelming at times, but this course lays the groundwork for you to be a full-stack developer in one of the easiest languages to learn, Ruby.

Our community organizer, Evelyn, is a gem. I'm not sure when she sleeps, because she's always around! She works hard for me and my fellow classmates by posting new jobs in our Slack channel, genuinely connecting with everyone she meets, finding industry professionals to come speak to our class, setting up visits to local companies, and engaging with students on a personal level. She has a solution for everything and I'm proud to call her a friend and mentor.

I don't have the perspective of being in another bootcamp, so I can't compare, but for a 2 month Code Immersion Bootcamp, I'd say it's worth the money. It has laid a great base knowledge for me to grow from and showed me where my strengths, weaknesses, and interests are in the tech field. When I was teaching myself, I had no path. I was just learning random bits of languages that I thought were relevant. Tech Talent South gave me clear direction, and optimism that I can actually make a huge career change!

Jill is a real asset to helping during and after with your resume with timely advice and recommendations. The instructor was very knowledgable on the subject matter and provided excellent documentation of the course lectures and activities. I had three instructors during my boot camp, Clarise and Leslie were awesome and really took time to listen to people and find new ways to help them understand with patience and respect. I would highly suggest this bootcamp to anyone considering learning coding!

I decided to do the full-time Code Immersion course. At first it was rather overwhelming, so much information at once! After about two weeks things finally started to sink in and really start making sense. The overall curriculum was very well structured... Read More however, I personally think there should be more time spent on JavaScript. The front end languages you learn are HTML and CSS which are essential for any development job. Then one day of JavaScript which is a huge part of web development. Followed by Ruby and Ruby-on-Rails. Ruby can a bit daunting at first but after we introduced Rails everything started to click.

My choice to attend a boot camp is primarily career motivated. I was looking to change my work situation and I am currently on the job hunt! TTS offers a great job board that is updated weekly and they have a great team of people who actually care about finding you a job. They do a great job of organizing guest speakers, company tours and many other engaging activities that either expose people to new technologies or give them a leg up in the job search.

Overall TTS was a fantastic choice for me. I would recommend any of the classes to anyone looking to either change their career or just increase their knowledge.
