| | | Code Fellows really cares about people learning to code and getting jobs. You as a student do need to put in the effort to get all that Code Fellows has to offer, but that's true of any school. Stay connected to the community and you'll do alright. A lot of my class mates have good jobs now, and I have several leads, and have felt that I had a realistic shot for getting any of the jobs I've interviewed for. Code Fellows has been really good about supporting me in the job search after graduation, and I'm continuing to learn a lot with the foundational knowledge I got from the course. |
| | Heidi | I took Foundations I, 201, 301 and 401 in JavaScript. The reason I chose CF out of all the programs was the culture and values; the focus on accepting the struggles that come with learning to code along with the instructors who genuinely cared about your progress/process.
Because I was there for the transition from Kristen to Dave (CEO) and curriculum (Foundations I & II and Dev Accelerator to 101-401) I saw a lot of growing pains. Ultimately, though CF has stayed committed to improving, being accountable to it's students, and working to have a healthy and inclusive learning environment for everyone.
My biggest take away: CF taught me to learn - how to learn - to code. With industry tools changing often, it is the ability to learn new technologies, languages, frameworks and libraries that is the skill you need as much, or more, than having experience with those specific tools.
There is some conflict between the intentions of the school and what they provide, especially when it comes to 401 level courses. The school, in it's inception, was for coders who wanted to amp up to get into the tech industry or switch skills. So the transition into 'anyone can do this in 6 months' hasn't been born out for everyone. Some people, smart people, are very challenged by the pace. That being said, CF was very supportive and understanding.
Regarding job support, there is a new and amazing professional development coordinator. She has a lot of knowledge of the industry. |
