| | Anonymous | Pros: I appreciated that the work felt very real. I know that in certain bootcamps, you're expected to turn in assignments every day. Because of my home situation, there was no way for me to spend hours in the evening working on site (this was at the time that we were meeting in person) for something like that. The way the program is designed allowed me to go home at a reasonable time each day and do whatever studying or extra work needed when I could, as assessments were on the weekends. The instructors are knowledgeable and industry experts (not bootcamp grads), and excellent at explaining. I'm a former educator, and I was impressed with the teaching. They are experienced and take feedback all the time, which allows them to get better quickly and meet the needs of the students. Additionally, because of the small cohort sizes, I felt that my instructors and advisor knew me well - both as a person and as a programmer - and were able to effectively address my areas of growth. The job support comes both in the form of lectures and exercises as well as support after the program ends, and the material was based on psychology and science, which I thoroughly appreciated.
Cons: I can't think of too many. I will say that as with any adult-learning program, in order to take advantage of everything, you have to be proactive. Whether it is asking for help during a lab or lecture, asking your advisor for suggestions, or asking the career coach (Zach) for guidance. I've found that those of us who did these things felt more supported in the long run. |
