| | Don Apollo Cosio | I left my high paying managerial job to try something new and stumbled upon this high rating bootcamp in Hong Kong. Needless to say, i processed my visa papers with the assistance of the admissions manager and flew to HK and studied there for 5months.
Pros:
- It mimics an actual workplace where there is less supervision in finding business solutions. However, the instructors are always there to help if you need them.
- The class starts at 9am and ends at 6pm, discussion is only 2 hours per day and the other hours are hands on coding which I prefer since you can only learn to code by doing it.
- There was a guest speaker to keep us motivated and a fun quiz bee to keep test what we learned during the cohort.
- My instructors, classmates and all other staffs of Xccelerate are friendly, humble and approachable.
- Xccelerate has alot of connections to refer you for a job interview after the cohort ends. This doesn't only apply to Hong Kong base students but they can refer you to the employers in the country you are base after you have graduated.
Cons:
- The curriculum is too packed, two to three different lessons to tackle per day is too much for everyone to comprehend.
- 90% of my classmates did not do the prep work that is the reason they struggled. This has to be communicated to the students properly that they need enough knowledge prior to joining the boot camp or else they will be left frustrated as this is IMMERSIVE. Unless, they are willing to spend at least 12hrs per day coding during the cohort to be successful.
Suggestions:
- To the instructors: Make the learning process project base by building an actual application so the students will know how to integrate all their learning into one working project. Then on top of this, continue on having mini projects after each module.
- To the students/planning to enroll: Bring massive motivation and prepare at least a month before on learning javascript.
In a nutshell, joining this boot camp is a great experience and I highly recommend to everyone who wants to change career, passionate in web development, wants to challenge their learning capabilities and earn a lot of money and huge market! |
