Anonymous I have been a student with OpenClassrooms for almost 7 months now. I am pursuing the Front End Development Bachelors degree program. OpenClassrooms curriculum is a great starting point. They take all the guesswork out of where to start in your studies and replace it with direction and guidance. They do not hold your hand, which is good if you want to be a developer. I trucked along and made good progress when I first started but I realized their optional coursework was not enough to get through their projects. I had to branch out to other free courses available on other platforms like Udacity. Regarding OC's lessons, some are great! They are clear, updated, and reliable. I have come across some where the assignments aren't titled correctly (specifically one of the JavaScript courses. It was all about implementing JS into web projects, but was titled something strange like 'cat and mouse game'), course assignments have vague directions, and getting graded is frustrating. Other anonymous students grade your work and often fail you on something that is actually passing. The only answer OC has to this problem is "Let us know, we will let you do it again." It is more trouble than it is worth and I no longer complete them as they are optional and do not hinder your degree progress. Just be prepared to look elsewhere for more reliable practice. You get one hour a week with a mentor. If you are looking to go at the program at a leisure pace that is great. If you are like me and you want to get the ball rolling in your progress, this can be an obstacle. OpenClassrooms overall aesthetic feels outdated compared to the sleek interfaces provided by competing mentorship programs. It isn't very encouraging for someone studying Front End Development. My mentor is friendly and obviously knows their stuff. I look forward to our sessions! OpenClassrooms staff overall is very welcoming and accomodating. Their response is quick if you have any questions. There is a social platform for students and staff to interact. However it seems students really have no incentive to post anything beyond out of the blue success stories and the occasional tech blog. All potential job offers that are posted are not an option for out of country students cause they are mostly based in France. It is easy to just neglect the feature altogether. All in all my experience with OC has been a positive one with only a few minor bumps. I have learned A LOT through OC and that is very satisfying. They promise me if I put the work in I will be rewarded an actual degree...not a 'nanodegree' or 'certificate' and that is a huge for the amount you pay. There is always room for improvement, but ultimately I am glad I chose OC and would recommend it to anyone looking for a great starting point.
Tami McInnis I joined Open Classrooms for the Front-End Web Developer BA program. From the various schools I was looking at (both physical and online) I felt Open Classrooms best met my needs as someone who has already done post-secondary, is in a career, and looking to retrain for a new path. I absolutely love Open Classrooms and am sure that I made the right choice! •The course content is very well laid out. •The self paced learning is perfect for someone who wants to work at the same time. •The staff are always happy to answers questions and make sure that you are happy. •The mentorship program (with weekly meetings) is fantastic, and really helps for the things that you are stuck on and to get real world advice! •The projects are fun and challenging, and build your portfolio. •Add to that the job guarantee, many other features...especially the fact that it is an officially recognized BA program. Since enrolling I have learned SO much and developing a passion for this industry more each day. So excited to be a part of this program and for the new growth that each day brings!!!
