Vanessa O'Hara Aidoo Code, connect, collaborate! As our mantra boldly says, truly was and still is the the experience I'm having being apart of the Developers in Vogue community. Developers in Vogue is an initiative that teaches girls how to code. It's vision is to bridge the gender gap in the fields of STEM. Developers in Vogue or DIV for short has a lot of initiatives that developed us not only to be developers but also to become leaders in our communities. Two of these initiatives that personally have helped me is the pair programming and the post boot camp support. At DIV everyone is given a pair programmer, someone to work on a project with. Though that was all they told us it was, I saw that there was a lot more to it. Having a pair means you don't work alone. You are now a part of a team, you have to learn to collaborate, learn to respect someone's views, learn to take criticism and most importantly learn how to delegate. Sometimes you would have to be the leader or the subordinate, either ways you will have to adjust to fit in system. All these qualities are essential to one's success in the workplace and DIV found a way to instill them in us. The post boot camp support is one of the things that makes DIV stand out amongst other coding teaching communities. At DIV during your boot camp you're taught how to write a professional CV and also how to get the most out of your LinkedIn so by the time you're done you'll be a ready for the job market. And after the boot camp you're assisted in getting a full/part time job or an internship in a tech company. Becoming a developer in vogue to me is one of the best decision I've ever made. After the boot camp a couple of the girls and I went on to participate in a hackathon with an idea I had been thinking of for sometime and because of the good foundation we had at our boot camp we excelled and came in first place. We are now working hard to establish our company,Trashy Cash. I will give Developers in Vogue a 5 star rating and encourage every lady out there that wants to be a part of the tech revolution going on in our continent to join the DIV team. Take a chance on them and you will not regret it.
