Daniel Stewart Hello, I have been studying at OpenClassrooms since 2019 on the Front-End Path. My overall experience has been positive as there is a community of students that are willing to help when things get rough (Believe me they will); List below I have also provided a slightly longer written review at the bottom. Workplace is the online portal used for students this is a service provided by Facebook. When you sign up they will give you login details. Like professional Facebook Pros: -Community of students on workplace for questions ranging from course work, career advice, help, jobs -Mentorship you will be allocated a dedicated mentor who you will meet once per week to discuss your goals, achievements. Great for motivation. -Cheaper you will gain a diploma(EQF 6 non-credit) cost less than most bootcamps -Flexible you only study as much as you want to -Job guarantee after you complete your path you should find a job within 6 months or money back (cost covering 12 months) -New courses added frequently -Support is provided through phone and email if required -online without deadlines -Allows students to pause membership (will not charge until you come back) Cons: -Some courses are outdated requiring the student to look for other sources for same information (JavaScript has been updated) -Projects can be extremely difficult resulting in students giving up due to learning curve (Not really OC fault) -No dedicated staff members on workplace for questions(Staff do use workplace just no dedicated staff to a particular path) Platform/mentor: The platform is easy to use and all path course work is easily accessible, no issue with this. Once you sign up your are allocate a mentor who will assist you during your path keep you on track and provide guidance when you feel stuck. Meetings are 1 hour over google hangouts once per week. If your not satisfied with your mentor changing is an option. coursework/material: Each path has optional courses you can take to help you complete the project, I felt that due to the requirements of the project i usually had to use outside resources like youtube, treehouse. This is not uncommon in any coding bootcamp you will also need to use more than one source. Openclassrooms unintentionally trains this skills of seeking and using outside information. I see this has a benefit. Openclassrooms have made attempts to update courses like JavaScript/Java have been updated. Workplace/other students: I usually post my questions on the workplace normally students will reply with resources and tips sometimes mentors who are also using the platform will reply with their guidance. I have enjoyed knowing that I am not the only one on this path and other students are in the same position this creates a atmosphere everyone is equal.
