1. Tell me about your background. What was your education and professional experience before joining Evolve Security Academy?

Before starting the bootcamp, I studied Aeronautical Engineering and Computer Science in Madrid, Spain. I worked as a Technical Specialist at Apple troubleshooting iOS devices and Apple products. Up until this point, much of my security knowledge had been theoretical. I wanted to apply the knowledge I had obtained in school to a professional environment where I could get hands-on experience.

2. What was your favorite part about the experience?

My favorite part was the professional focus that Evolve provides. Everything we did was related to the cybersecurity industry. The lecture, labs, and meetups with adjunct instructors gave me more information and knowledge necessary to gain expertise in the cybersecurity industry.

3. What do you wish you would have known before you started?

I had little experience in Python before beginning the bootcamp. This required me to do some outside work to become up-to-date with the classes. I encourage students to assess their skills before hand and take advantage of the prep exercises provided by Evolve. This will help identify which skills they might have to work on building before or during class.

4. Where are you working now? What is your day-to-day role like?

I'm now working as a Cyber Security Analyst at UL, LLC (Underwriter Laboratories). My main function involves pen testing medical devices (X-Rays, Ultrasound or infusion pumps) in accordance with UL standards in order to protect confidentiality, integrity, and availability of patient information.

5. How did Evolve prepare you for life as a Cybersecurity Analyst?

I apply what I learned from the bootcamp daily in my job, from the basics in networks to threat modelling, vulnerability scanning or creating pentest reports.

6. What advice do you have for individuals who are interested in pursuing a cybersecurity bootcamp?

Don't think twice about joining. If you like cybersecurity and want to improve your career, this is a great opportunity to accomplish that goal. The bootcamp starts with the basics and sends its graduates off with a high level of expertise. Evolve's bootcamp, in my opinion, is the best way to transition from having basic skills and knowledge to becoming a true cybersecurity professional.
