Founded in Lisbon in 2015, this Portuguese-born social impact startup is focused on reprogramming lives through the empowering teaching of code.
Strongly committed to snatching talented minds out of unemployment && || dead-end jobs, they currently host... Read More a regular 14-week intensive && immersive full-time full-stack programming bootcamps in 4 different campus within the Portuguese territory (Lisbon, Oporto, Fundão && Terceira Island).
Their regular programming bootcamps welcome n00bs of all ages (over 18) && backgrounds - graduates or not - as long as they are willing to fully and passionately commit to becoming professional - and happily employed - junior full-stack software developers within a very short period of time. Students are guided throughout the course by a team of instructors who have themselves formerly been pupils at the bootcamp. Their teaching methods are peculiar && their passion for clean code is only surpassed by their love for amazingly talented people that society has disregarded.
In each one of their campuses, different financing/sponsorship solutions are offered to help talented candidates that cannot advance the bootcamp's fee. Its specific terms and conditions are listed on their site's FAQs.
Develop a full-stack programmer's mindset that will allow you to switch freely between back-end && front-end like a bo$$. Use the freshest production techniques in software development, in a uniquely creative and disruptive environment that is both highly stimulating and uncannily informal. Become fluent in programming best practices as you boost your mad development skills using the coolest frameworks available to mankind. And, above all, learn to learn! (Which is, basically, the most useful skill that can ever be taught to a programmer!)
"Happiness, satisfaction, personal realisation. Recommended to all who want to follow this rabbit hole."
When they said it was eat, sleep, code and repeat, they were not kidding. You barely have time to live outside of the bootcamp... Prepare to dream about code, breath code, headaches, tired AF, BUT IT IS ALL WORTH IT. Once you reach the end, i promise,... Read More you will miss that atmosphere, the colleagues and the teachers.
14 weeks of extreme educational and emotional intensity. All the staff is extremely attentive and will give you all the support you need, as long as you are open to being helped. The friendships could be incredible and the connections formed, completely... Read More out of what you ever thought possible in such a short time. It won't be easy, the idea is not to be! It will take commitment and hard attempts to understand and assimilate the content (which may often not come). Will you understand everything and be super great? No! But being persistent and not giving up is one of the skills that if you don't have, you will have. I think the current location in Lisbon, is complicated for many people and the facilities and equipment could be much better, taking into account the amount paid of 7,000€ per student. The way the whole placement part, (i.e. getting you a job), is managed, I also don't think it is ideal for all people, since not everyone gets to the end at the same level. However, there is a job for everyone, whether it's during the bootcamp, soon after, or 1 or 2 months later... the opportunity will come!
"Challenge yourself, it’s the only path which leads to growth !! :)"
PROS: 1) When you've graduated from bootcamp, your options for employment are pretty open 2) While some can learn to code and get a job within months, for most people, it's more like years. There's no way we can change careers more quickly. 3) You will... Read More work with people in pairs or in teams, and work together to ensure that projects are realized. Your routine at a codecamp will be similar to that of a developer. 4) At boot camp, there will always be support from tutors (and your peers) to help you when you're stuck. It is much more efficient to deal with an issue together. CONS: 1)If you are based somewhere remotely, or don't have access to transportation, this is something to consider. The best coding boot camps usually need their students to come daily to make the most of their courses. 2)Boot camp cost money but they offer finance options to help with costs. 3) As we know, not all coding bootcamps are equal. It is critical that you research which coding bootcamps are of interest to you.
"Amazing School, very intensive && immersive, the staff are simply awesome. I wish I could repeat the experience."
Each day we had classes and after it we had time to put in practice what we learned. The location in Lisbon is definately a pro. The biggest pro are the amazing teachers and the super helpfull and attentive detail and placement staff. This bootcamp lasted... Read More 14 weeks, which is good, but maybe 7/8 more weeks and it would be perfect, so I consider this a downside. The class had 39 people, I really liked what we built has a class, but I wouldn't be surprised if the perfect number was between 25-30 colleagues.
Pros - Culture, Empowerment, Technical knowledge of teachers, Sylabus, Job Placement. Cons - A little messy on MAC setups which can easily be fixed. Pro Tip - You really have to be able to let go your personal life for the full duration of the course,... Read More otherwise you will turn the hardmode on!
The marketing material of the sounded do cliché. "Oh, life changing!". "From noob to pro in 14 weeks!". That's the duration of the Big brother, apparently. But I wanted to change my life so believing the cliché was all I had. So I took a leap of faith... Read More (and wallet because I couldn't afford the course from my own pocket) and went for it. And if my expectations were high they were still blown away. I was prepared for the technical evolution but I was not prepared for the social part of the bootcamp. Academia is a bunch of people that want to change their life. Doesn't matter the background. That unites us. The teachers and staff make that possible. With a lot of awesomeness in the mix. I'm one the lucky ones.
I was feeling lost and unhappy with my career. I was encouraged by a friend to join the Academia de Código and that was the best decision of my life. In a short time I was able to enter a job market with a huge potential for professional growth. I feel... Read More safe to move on to whatever area I want. I highly recommend the Academia de Código.
Definitely the best experience of my life! In my thirties I've decided to change all my professional life and join programming world. I did it with the help of Academia de Código and it was one of the best decisions of my life. It was not easy (not at... Read More all), but I've learned so much in 14 weeks with the best teachers and colleagues. In the end of this amazing bootcamp we had the best team helping us to find the job of our dreams, and in a month I got that job offer! Thank you Academia de Código! You are the best, I couldn't be more proud to be a part of this family!
The bootcamp is an amazing experience overall, it's hard and challenging don't get the wrong but at the same time very rewarding! It's incredible the ammount of knowledge that the staff can transmit in such short time not only from a technical standpoint... Read More but also from a human perspective. I can definetly say not only did I grow technically but also as a person, the collegues that shared this ride with me where amazing and really helped me in the whole process. Overall the bootcamp was great choice in my life and delivered what it promised!
