"Really Great intro into UX/UI"
I became interested in UX Design after feeling a bit stalled in my marketing career. I was looking for an opportunity to both leverage my existing skills in understanding user behavior online and general marketing/design principles and gain a new skill... Read More
I enrolled in Designlab's UX Foundations (as I didn't have prior graphic design or related experience) to see if this was something I was really interested in pursuing while also earning admission into the full program.
I loved the breakdown and structure of the course - the combination of deadlines, along with flexibility in actually getting your work done within a given week, provided the perfect balance of urgency and flexibility.
I learned a ton, in 8 weeks, I got paired with a mentor who helped provide insights into working in design, how to evaluate my own work and think about critique more insightfully. I built a wireframe for a website, iterated on my design, learned how to design forms and responsive pages and got pretty good at Figma.
I'd say even if i wasn't planning on continuing into the academy - its an excellent foundation in UX/UI principles with hands on practice and it's actually quite fun. I would recommend this course to anyone in a similar position.

"Awesome experience"
I knew that the course would entail a lot of math, I anticipated struggling with it since it was all new to me. However, it turned out to be less challenging than I expected.
I foremost needed a basis and a framework to work from. And this course did... Read More

"Making Data Approachable"
Overall Rating: 7/10
What I liked about it:
1. Emphasis on applying the concepts to work projects. The course was designed for mid-level/senior designers – and I felt like the translation from class to work was really solid. I am already finding ways to... Read More
2. Heavy emphasis on experimentation. I really appreciated diving into topics like statistical significance & how to use various calculators to determine things like anticipated incidence rate.
3. The pace of the course felt very doable on top of my current workload. I only dedicated 3-5 hours a week to this course.
4. Peer reviews. The structure of the course felt supportive. There was ongoing opportunities for feedback that felt very generative.
What could have been improved:
1. Some of the more dense topics felt too surface for me to fully grasp them. I am glad it gave me additional language to be able to identify where I might be able to grow next.
2. There was a heavy emphasis on profit-generation in the experimentation. Many of the concepts didn't translate 1:1 because many projects do not have the same retention or adoption patterns needed.
3. I still feel like I need to practice a lot more with data to be able to feel confident in applying the concepts to my project.
