Show up, participate (if you’re comfortable), collaborate, be open minded to learn from others, be willing to help others, and take advantage of the resources. If you do this with the right attitude and mindset, you’ll succeed, not only at Kenzie, but at almost anything in life. My experience at Kenzie changed my life, and for that I am forever grateful!

I attended the Kenzie Academy's Software Engineering Program (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Python, and Django) and landed my first software development role within 6 months of graduation. Prior to Kenzie, I had not had any software development experience... Read More and the only IT experience I had was working in tech support in college. It was a great program to not only teach us in-demand languages but also most importantly how to think like a developer and work on a development team.

I was a recent grad of a biology program, headed into healthcare when I realized that this was not what I wanted to do. I had very little experience with programming / tech, but I always had an interest in it, so I looked online about what I could do... Read More in my situation. Kenzie academy was the perfect solution for me, and while I was infinitely nervous about making such a drastic change and committing to something I knew so little about, they made me feel confident after just the first week that I had made the right decision.

Pros: - straightforward and easy-to-follow curriculum - up-to-date and current curriculum that is in line with the industry's current needs - an incredible community where everyone feels like old friends - the quality of my life after learning the skills... Read More I learned there Cons: - it’s a long program that requires a genuine commitment It’s hard to verbalize the impact my time at Kenzie has made on my life. I regularly keep in contact with staff and friends I met while attending the program. I still have a hard time believing my life is this good. I did the work, but Kenzie gave me the tools, the direction, and the guidance to help me get where I am today. I am so very grateful to Kenzie and the fantastic staff.

This review is for anyone regardless of background or experience in coding and who are undecided about doing this program whether they are changing their career, coming out of high school, or someone who has some college credits, homeless, etc. Who is this not for? Someone who can’t dedicate time and effort to really soak up the curriculum, not just get by, and show up everyday to class. Review: I could go on a rant about traditional education, but I want to keep this concise for any of you considering on doing this program. Whatever you decide to do whether it be Kenzie Academy or some other program, one fact remains. Whatever you put into it, is what you get out of it. I chose Kenzie Academy because I wanted something different than my previous university education. What drew me to the program was that they are invested in you financially and depend on your success. It’s in their financial DNA and if you follow the money, they are heavily invested in their students and for passing along savings to you. The educators there have real work experience with decades of wisdom in the industry to pass on. The learning environment is based off the working world and train you to build good habits. Their mission is to cultivate a workforce that is inclusive beyond just being a skilled programmer. Their support system is anchored with fellow alum, faculty, and a career placement team. With an education at Kenzie Academy, you aren’t going to be fearful of having obsolete knowledge compared to a 4-year university and will be immersed in numerous development concepts. They follow your progress from start to finish and will proactively check up on you in order to not let you fall through the cracks in the program. The skills you learn will help you navigate new challenges and learn efficiently which is more valuable than being just a one trick pony on one specific language or technology stack. I loved my time at Kenzie Academy. I was working a really frustrating job with bad hours where I was under appreciated. While I was a student the staff and faculty did so much to work within my schedule and help me feel valuable and like I had untapped... Read More potential. I really needed that at that point in my life and throughout the pandemic. The staff I worked with were so patient and smart. They are tech wizards and have great communication, which was really surprising. Whenever I needed support, I always was able to find someone to work with to complete my assignments. More importantly, Kenzie helped me build good connections with people who are in or looking to be in the tech industry. I must have made hundreds of linkedIn connections since I started and building a network of tech-minded people really helped me feel like I belonged in tech even though it's somewhat unusual for first-generation hispanic people to become Developers. There are many more programs available now than when I started and I want to go back again and keep learning. I have landed a much better job and am making over 3x what I was before. I can now see the paths of career growth in my life ,which was never something I was excited about in my old jobs. Thanks again to everyone at Kenzie.
