When I started facing these challenges at Ubiqum, I didn't know anything about programming.
One and a half months later I see myself going through blogs, sites and all... Read More kind of programming and coding related stuff.
My science background help me a lot (logical way of thinking and facing thing in a very ordered and abstract approach),
but also it has to do with the personal skills: determined, forward looking, open, patient, self-taught.
I am really happy for having joined this program at Ubiqum.
I have learned a lot -I am learning a lot, because like everything in life is a continuous process- in only one and a half months.
Struggling? Depends of your attitude and your way of taking things in life. To me is pure intelectual joy and a very rich personal
experience along with the always supporting mentors and people at Ubiqum.
I've booked the MERN course, which I'm attending since beginning June,
but with great pleasure I'm thinking about going one step further and continue with JAVA :)
I give them 4 stars, because perfection is a goal to be continuously pursued ;)

I love that it is a 100% learning by doing, after one week we could show already our first web site (a very basic one but still a website). It is moving forward very fast but if you come to the classes every day and follow what the mentors tell you to... Read More do... won´t be a problem.
Facing new challenges every day und struggling a little bit makes you learn way faster, as you need to work hard to find some solutions.

Im currently doing the Data Analytics & Machine Learning bootcamp at Ubiqum. In my opinion, Ubiqum is the best place to learn how to code: the environment is amazing, mentors are really good and always available for help and the course structure is designed... Read More begining of the course I can assert that I've learnt more about Data Analytics and Machine Learning during these 2 months in Ubiqum Code Academy than the during the time in my Master Programm. The learning process in Ubiqum is very fast, rich and intense,and as weeks go by, you realised that you're absorbing tons of new knowledge thanks to the Learning by Doing process and the great support given by the Ubiqum's mentors through the personal sesions and the "Spikes" (sesions about an specific topic). I definetly recommend Ubiqum Code Academy.

Interesting Program, I wanted to do this for a long time.

For me personally, it was very difficult, though, since I didn't have any previous coding experience and started from scratch.
The first project (soccer website) requires some, at least average... Read More level of programming skills, therefore the teaching methodology didn't really work in my case. I think for students like me (without any IT background) there should be lectures both with theory and practical exercises for the first two weeks.

I think there should be a more individual approach to teaching and learning since all people are different and understand things in different ways.

Otherwise I like the friendly staff, knowledgeable mentors, and a relaxed atmosphere.

In terms of the office itself: It doesn't really fit the course, it's very loud, both outside thanks to the traffic and inside due to the coffee machine, it's also hot and the air feels very heavy. Still no air conditioning which was promised a month ago. The chairs cause back pain after sitting for a couple of hours.

My story starts like many others who attend coding boot-camps - I was working at a job I didn't enjoy and I felt very strongly that I could do so much more. After some consideration I saw that there were many programming boot-camps available... Read More where I lived in Barcelona. I've always had a strong technical background but never any formal training, especially not with coding and programming languages.

After I decided I wanted to make the career switch to Web Development, Ubiqum immediately stood out to me as a first choice. In particular, I was able to register for a 5 month course that included not just front-end work with HTML/CSS/JavaScript, but back-end work with Java as well. I wanted to be able to call myself a full-stack web developer, and I wasn't confident I could do that in the 9 week programs offered by many other boot-camps.

Even if other boot-camps did offer substantial 5 month courses, they'd have a hard time comparing to Ubiqum's quality of training and care.

The first time I spoke with someone from Ubiqum I was surprised by how sincere, attentive and caring they appeared to be. I assumed that was normal for the first point of contact at a school, and may not be the case with the other staff and mentors. I was very wrong! From the very beginning each and every person at Ubiqum I've worked with has been not just incredibly helpful and knowledgeable but personally invested in my success. I couldn't have been more impressed.

With the incredible support of the staff and mentors at Ubiqum I've gone from coding plain HTML / CSS web pages in the first few days to suddenly working with JavaScript to manipulate JSON data fetched from a live API, to making my very own Vue web-app from the ground up using a Firebase back end, to designing a game in Java using a back end I've written myself. While you're never finished learning when it comes to programming, I can't state enough how much I've learned in a short amount of time and how confident I am in my skills thanks to Ubiqum.

It should be worth nothing that none of this comes easy. The program requires hard work, dedication, patience and perseverance. Programming comes more easily to some than it does to others - Yet thanks to Ubiqum's mentors taking such a personal approach to working with students instead of just offering one-size-fits-all solutions, anyone who walks in the door here is capable of taking great strides into this extremely challenging field.

Deciding on a programming boot camp is a difficult process, but I can't recommend Ubiqum enough. The phrase I keep using with my family and friends who ask about my experience is that it's "honestly one of the best things I've ever done for myself."

Do it for yourself too!

If you want to change your career drastically and enter the amazing world of IT I think the best place to start is Ubiqum!
Why?
1. Because you will learn things by doing, which is vital in development/coding: you will develop 3 real-world projects from... Read More basic web pages to a real game using technologies which are high-demanded in the job-market and well paid around the world!

2. Because you will have a very flexible, personal paying method. You can pay the remaining 50% after getting the job! And even it seems to be very expensive you won't have any financial difficulties while paying, they make it really easy for you!

3. Because you will work with agile methodologies, which is mostly used in the majority of IT companies. You will work in a really nice international environment with people from different countries. You will have helpful mentors and coworkers.

4. Because the programs here are aimed at job placement and you will have the support of Ubiqum´s HR Manager during the applying period whenever you need it, even after finishing the job-support week!

I took the course coming from a non-technical background, knowing almost nothing about coding. After 5 months of full-time courses in Ubiqum, I can say that I am quite confident in working on real-life data projects, especially coding in R.

The methodology... Read More is: you are thrown to the sea and you learn swimming because you need to. Basically there are no "classes", you learn while working on projects which have guidelines on how to get them done. There are mentoring sessions for the parts you're stuck with.

I would definitely advise the bootcamp for people who want to quickly get to a decent level in machine learning projects. If you are more interested in Data Engineering, this may not be the ideal program for you.

Pros:
- Well structured curriculum that gets harder and more real
- One month final project with a company
- Really helpful mentors
- Contacts with companies in Barcelona for job support
- Learning from others in your cohort

Cons:
- Lack of personalized code review sessions
- No SQL in curriculum (they are planning to change this point)
- No deep learning
- Some data is not from real-life examples. Would be better to have all projects from real-life challenges.
