Product design is a field that brings together art, business, and engineering. Through design, you'll mix aesthetics with functionality to develop innovative ideas. It is a career path that allows room for growth and expansion in a variety of areas, including design research, art direction, or even freelancing. If you don't like one aspect of product design, there's always another that you transition to with just a few adjustments.

Product design skills make you valuable in many different job markets. With that in mind, Thinkful launched a new Product Design program to help you develop the right skills in the right order to get you a career in design. Thinkful's curriculum keeps pace with state-of-the-art technology and the demands of the job market.

What You Will Learn:

This course takes a deep dive into the three major disciplines of product design: UX Design, Visual Design, and Frontend Design. Students will focus on developing a solid understanding of how to gather and analyze qualitative and quantitative data; the ability to apply core visual design principles around typography, color, grid systems, and more; and the skills required to mock up coded prototypes using HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

As students progress through the course, they learn to use the Design Process to identify specific problems that solve user needs. Students will work with real users to test their projects against user experiences and validate their solutions based on feedback.

With each completed project, students will prepare for interviews and their future careers as product designers through final assessments with a live audience. These assessments ensure students have the skills to articulate the design process and defend their design details in professional settings.

What to Expect:

All Thinkful programs use 1-on-1 mentorship for a more effective way to learn. In addition to learning through an online platform, students meet with personal mentors each week to learn from an expert in the industry. If you're stuck or have additional questions, you can attend "office hours" to meet with different mentors. Students will also have the option to attend workshops and presentations that break down different topics or cover them more in-depth.

The Product Design program is part-time and flexible, which allows you to learn when you want and where you want. However, we suggest dedicating 20-30 hours per week to complete this course within six months. Each student will be paired with a Program Manager and Mentor to help keep him/her on track for graduation.

Backed by a Job Guarantee:

Thinkful programs are backed by a tuition reimbursement guarantee. If you don't get a job within six months of graduating, and you meet the criteria, we'll reimburse your tuition. To qualify, students need to have a bachelor's degree and live in one of the cities listed on our website.

Whether you qualify for the tuition reimbursement guarantee or not, you will still have your own career coach. Our Career Services team will help you navigate the job market, apply to jobs, and ace your interviews during the program, and up to six months after graduation.
