I am a pharmacist looking for a change in career path and I found SDA to be the best IT academy on the Romanian market for my needs, as for curriculum, price and attending hours. I chose the weekend course as I think it is the best option even if you... Read More have spare time in the workdays' evenings, because I believe the latter are times when the brain is tired and learning performance is usually low for all people. The curriculum covers the main data needed to land a junior tester job. Non-technical people can easily understand the infos, you only need some logic. That is true at least until the Intro to programming and automation modules :) Having zero previous knowledge in this field, I found those modules the hardest to understand, but also the most interesting, and with further study and practice I and everyone will be able to master it. Anyway, I believe knowledge of automation testing is optional for a manual tester, at least at junior level. Paid course vs free resources: apart from the accountability that trainers and deadlines in a paid, real-time course provide, in the SDA course I found substantially and significantly more informations than in any free resource I found online and even than in some paid ones, like courses on Udemy, one of them (the one I thought to be the more complex there) I previously bought. Materials provided by SDA were topped by more resources and lots of tips from the trainers. We had good, dedicated trainers, with both technical and teaching skills, calm and helpful with our questions and misunderstandings. (Almost) Each module was taught by a different trainer, which gave me access to several ways of thinking and approaching problems to be solved, and also insights into working in an IT team. The informations are many and condensed, but trainers invite you to stop them any time you have fallen behind and ask anything you need. There is also a good amount of practice during the course, but it is crucial that you study/practice outside the course to deepen the knowledge and to master the use of various tools. Maybe some more hours of practice included in the course can be useful. A self-learning video module explaining in detail the Agile methodology and Scrum framework, essential in the IT industry, is also included. From the start I had good, prompt support from the educational consultant Amir Hameed and his colleagues in the financial/sales departments. Also we had a very good Project Manager, Georgiana Badea. She is always really nice and ready to help. And of maximum help and importance was the HR Class held by Alina Niculae, with loads of advices and tips regarding the CV, LinkedIn profile, interviews and job search. She even offered us further support and guidance, after the actual webinar. Trainers as well shared infos regarding job search with us. Also we're provided a technical interview simulation with one of our trainers, at the end of the course. I recommend the SDA Software Tester course for everyone who looks for a gateway to enter the IT world, as it is the easiest to take in this industry and knowledge gained from it can be the basis for many other IT roles, e.g. developer, automation tester, business analyst, project manager and of course support roles. Be ready for a challenging period in your life, especially if you have a family and a full time job, but be open to trusting and enjoying the process rather than always thinking of the outcome. Do not be afraid to ask questions, even if you find them stupid. Do not be afraid to make mistakes, that's when you learn the most. Do not give up when it's hard, be confident that at some point things will start to connect and you will begin seeing and making use of the big picture :) Also do not limit yourself to this course, but start diving into the IT world ASAP: attend events, do some networking - and then some more, see what and who's trending, take testing challenges on the online platforms and so on.
