I graduated from Codaisseur in mid 2019, and have since been able to gain very stable footing in the software world. Below I will try to, as honestly as possible, list the good and bad regarding my experience. The good: The best thing for me was the overall... Read More atmosphere. I never felt reluctant to come in on any day, was in a class with some great people. Another big pro were the teachers. They all had their own (often quirky) way of shining their light on a subject. From literally dressing up and acting like a stereotypical stakeholder, to asking you to stalk them online to prove a point. And even though at the end of the day they're a business, of which you as the student are the product, the teachers still get invested with your success on an emotional level, and really made me feel like they want to get me ready for my future job as best they could. I won't name anyone but one of them even used some of his free time coding up the solution to some irrelevant chess-based coding puzzle I had been headbutting, including full documentation. A couple more good points were the ping-pong table, plenty of quiet places to sit if you needed to concentrate, decent course material that provides you with modern basis for a junior web developer. The bad: So I have to preface this with that I ended up with a great job, so it wasn't that bad, but I still didn't really like the assistance provided during the job search period. I constantly felt coaxed into taking the first job offer that came my way, rather than just waiting out all the leads I had. I understand that there's quite a bit on the line given their business model, but would still expect them to have a little bit more faith in their graduates, as opposed to expecting them to take the first 32h-week pseudo-internship that came their way. Speaking of job leads; don't expect them to just be thrown in your lap either, you will have to do all of the applications etc. on your own. Which I personally think is a good thing. I wouldn't want that freedom to be taken away. Another thing that occasionally led to some problems were some of the organisational aspects. Our whole class had to wait in front of a closed door on two occasions, and often times a teacher wouldn't be aware of what had been taught by the teacher of the previous day, or a teacher just wasn't aware it was his day to teach class to begin with. All this was more of an annoyance to me than a real problem though. Lastly, although in my class this was a somewhat unpopular opinion, I didn't really like the reader (the application that contains all course material). It often expected you to just take the function of certain code snippets for granted, and wouldn't really give you a detailed explanation as to why they worked, which would unfortunately mean that you would just be copy-pasting many of them in order to get through the day's learning. Bits and pieces of your own code that you don't really understand will always (now speaking from experience) come back to haunt you. The stats: Previous experience: Hobbyist C++/Python, almost no Javascript or Linux/Unix knowledge, Class: 25 (offline) Job search duration: 5-6 weeks Job applications: 15-20 Job offers: 5 Best offer: 3k/month 40h/week incl. Codaisseur fees Summarizing: Codaisseur was one of the best decisions I've ever made. The amount of success it lead me to is something that I could've never imagined in such a short period of time. It's not all rainbows and sunshine however, and you'll have to work really hard (13h a day on average for me, excluding travel time) to properly get through it. If you have affinity with computers and software however, and are prepared to really put in the time, They will set you up with a highly desirable set of skills that form a solid foundation for aspiring developers.

The course is fast, there is a wide variety of topics, and the selection is pretty rigorous. Which ensures the quality of graduates and the willingness of companies to hire such graduates. Codaisseur was a really great experience when I graduated from class 18 in September 2018. Before I became a developer I was an optician. I really wanted to switch careers but I did not have a bachelor degree for it. I got a job the same day that I received my certificate and still working there with a permanent contract since November. I am mainly a backend developer working with the newest stack and a valued member in my team. I am really gratefull that I joined Codaisseur, and got a change to change my life and use their network. Would recommend it to anybody that wants to get into development. If I have to name one negative thing, it is the stress that it brings. Learning all these skills in just 11 weeks is hard! You have to fully commit those 11 weeks to make it through.

Just a terrible experience from start to finish. What can I say. After the first day where they make you confident in developing yourself. The professors are barely in the class. If you ask questions you are lucky to be answered even once. Graduated from there because I already have prior backend coding experience and needed frontend skills. The help was not much. The carreer counselling is a joke. They are not qualified to help. The job search agents are rude. They organise one career online meetup in 4 months. The work to find a job is mine. They did not help me. Total waste of time.

I think the whole experience for me has been great! I've been reading some of the negative feedback here and I was a bit shocked honestly. Such a different experience! I started this course during Corona, not having a lot of programming skills, I read... Read More it was really intense, but also read many great reviews, so decided to go for it! I really cleared up my schedule for the next 11 weeks and I'm happy I did. Because I was working from 09:00 till 22/23:00 each day. In the weekend I was working at my parttime job in the evening, but during the day I would still try to learn more. I understand that might not be for everyone, but being so much involved in it, was a really great experience for me. Also money wise, you definitely want to save up so you don't have to work every night for example. Something that they also mention to us.

Since we started during the corona time, we did it from home, so that kind of was a plus for me. Saves travelling time :) So we would have 1 or 2 lectures a day about the subject of that day and the rest of the time you would work on the reader that they created and you could get help from teachers or TA's. Now I didn't need a lot of help, but I do understand, especially since it was in an online environment, that if you need some more help, then yeah you might have to wait a bit. (and then it might feel like you are just all alone, since you're not in a classroom and nobody is there for you!) They would try to help people at the same time with similar issues, or plan in an extra lecture to explain some things if lot's of people were still struggling with it. I feel like they definitely tried to listen to and do something with the students inputs. (Every Friday they asked us to fill in a feedback form.)

About the part where they help you get a job, I understand that people are a bit let down by it. Even though I got hired because of one of their hiring events, that was the only one they organised since I finished the bootcamp 3 months earlier. They do help you out with writing CV, cover letter, setting up linkedIn, you can request practice (tech) interviews or anything else you really need. But yeah, you do have to do most of the work yourself. Just like during the bootcamp, Codaisseur is there to help you out, guide you, but you have to do it yourself eventually. And yeah obviously Codaisseur is trying to earn money, but so are you. You are investing in your future right? You want to get that job somewhere.

Now because of Corona, I'm sure it's a lot harder to get a job for anyone really. I think you also just need to be a bit lucky as well. You can expect to hear a lot from companies that they don't want to hire you because "lack of experience". Which is okay. Yeah, it's only been 11 weeks. They won't hire you purely on experience, they will hire you because you are a great fit for their company. (You check their boxes so to say) But those 11 weeks do show your future company, that you are able to learn new things in a fast pace, intensely and you are committed to it. Keep working on projects of your own after the 11 weeks, to show companies you want to keep learning and creating. That you can work independent as well!

Before Codaisseur I didn't really have an idea of what the programming world really looked like. Even though I did do some online course here or there. Thanks to this experience at Codaisseur I feel like I now know what I do and don't know, and I also see more clearly where I can go from here. That is one of the more valuable things I feel I've gotten out of this experience.
