A visual designer focuses on shaping and improving the user experience through illustrations, photography, typography, space, layout, and color. They do the work of a graphic designer, but they must also understand the digital aspects of the industry, which include both user interface and web design. Classes in visual design focus on branding, icons, infographics, logos, presentations, industry-standard software, wireframing skills, and more. A basic knowledge of coding isn’t essential to visual design, but it can be quite helpful.

Web developers earned a median yearly wage of $69,430 in 2018, and employment in this field is projected to increase 13 percent by 2028. Graphic designers earned a median yearly wage of $50,370 in 2018, and job growth is expected to be 3 percent by 2028. Many visual designers work in publishing, advertising, public relations, and related services industries.
