I am nearing the end of my journey as a student in the Software-Engineer Bootcamp and I must say that it was an incredible experience. The curriculum was well structured and covered all the essential topics needed to become a competent software engineer. The course was comprehensive and intense, so I was challenged throughout the program. The course also included numerous projects that allowed us to apply the knowledge we learned to real-world scenarios. These projects were an excellent way to gain hands-on experience and build a strong portfolio of work. Overall, I would highly recommend this software engineer bootcamp course to anyone who is serious about pursuing a career in software engineering. It was an excellent investment of my time and money, and I feel confident that I now have the skills and knowledge required to excel in this field.

The biggest selling point for me was a combination of price point (a bargain considering the quality of the platform as a whole - from tutors to content to additional opportunities), the opportunity to participate in codejams and externships and the career accelerator offered following graduation. As it's typically self-paced, I follow the two-three weeks per sprint plan as laid out in the course onboarding materials. A few things I really enjoy are being able to apply everything you learn to projects: projects pull on any knowledge you have gained to date and include the current class materials, so you are always applying and honing the skills you are learning at every step of the program. The tutors and community managers create a great learning environment and offer a lot of support along the way. I am over half way through the course and can already see how far I have come in my coding journey - I'm excited to complete the course and move into a new career!

I explored some options online and found that the data world has been shaping up into a worthy field and is rising in popularity. I used Codecademy for a few months and learned a good bit about data analysis techniques with Python and SQL, but still struggled to land a data-related job. Eventually I decided to get a more formal education and went with a boot camp rather than an extended-length degree program. I chose Practicum because of their great user and critic reviews online and due to some very helpful scholarships I received via Practicum itself. I liked the idea of professionals reviewing my code for the series of required projects. Data science had always seemed too intimidating to get into, which is why I was originally trying to teach myself about data analysis, but getting an education through a boot camp gave me the confidence to make the leap into the data science program that I am currently in. I will say that even with prior knowledge of data analysis techniques and experience using Python, I have felt engaged and challenged through each of the sprints and have learned a lot. I could say a lot about the platform itself, but in essence - it's easy to navigate, lessons are broken up into intuitive chunks, and they are consistently adding new material. User feedback is definitely listened to and is used for real improvement. Staff does a good job of building and maintaining a community through Discord/Slack; I have participated in some events and will likely increase my involvement once I get further along into learning new material. Students definitely appreciate the support network! Overall, I have been happy with my decision to join Practicum as a middle-ground between self-education and college education. I'm excited to continue learning the material. I would say that having some prior knowledge helped but does not seem necessary. I would suggest that if you are new to coding, to commit a little extra time to the first several sprints just to gain more familiarity with the languages and whatnot. Or, if you already have scattered knowledge, the program will definitely still engage you and allow you ample room for self-improvement.

I have not been very engaged in the community and still feel as though I have had support and learned a ton! A few suggestions do come to mind. I would like to see more opportunities for practicing the concepts available within the lessons platform. I think more practice before starting each project would help one understand and apply the concepts even more clearly. Also more mandatory collaboration with other students would be beneficial especially for those introverts like me who feel more in their comfort zone working alone. Perhaps weekly or bi-monthly get-togethers would help to encourage collaboration. At this point, I am looking forward to the career acceleration portion of the program so that I can put what I have learned to use and continue developing my skills. Read More doing this bootcamp for about 4-5 months now I can say that it is well worth the investment and I am finding it much more valuable than my university studies previously (which I stopped because they progressed too slow for me to keep interest). The practicum syllabus is fast-paced and very comprehensive. If you need any more detail in help the tutors are actually responsive and host all sorts of group learning and virtual classrooms. The online service itself is good and most of the learning is done browser with very little need for additional programs until later on. I have really enjoyed learning all the information I have so far and can genuinely see how easy it will be for me to become industry standard and be hired by the end of this bootcamp.

The tutors are immensely helpful in that they will take the time during office hours to help breakdown the issues you are having but also not give you the answer to still give you the opportunity to learn. If you are just beginning your coding journey, I think Practicum is an excellent place to start. You will feel empowered to take on this daunting journey of changing careers.
