I have joined the Professional Certificate in Applied AI and Data Science Programme, which is a joint programme with MIT Professional Education.

Started with various preparation courses, including Introduction to Python, Introduction to World of Data,... Read More The Must-Know Math and Statistics, and Introduction to Data Science. Those made me ready for the upcoming Core Technologies.

Two lecture sessions per week, delivered by MIT professors, which explain history, usage, and theories. Courses included Practical Data Sciences, Machine Learning, Generative AI, etc.

Followed up with a weekend mentor learning session, discussed brief theories, did a lab-made warm-up, and got some hands-on.

2 assignment projects and 1 Capstone project help understand more about theoretical concepts, and provide project experiences.

Overall, the program is great for busy professionals.

Further, the nature of the course itself and the support I received encouraged me to do my best in the course work, and actually take the time to learn the fundamentals of data science in a structured way. Beyond the math, the program taught me how to segment customers identifying who is draining resources and who is self sufficient allowing for smarter operational strategies. I’m walking away not just with a certificate, but with the ability to turn raw numbers into clear, actionable business recommendations.

Cons

The program was not without its hurdles, particularly the steep learning curve required to master technical terminologies like Ridge and Linear Regression. Transitioning from a non coding background to writing if else statements in Google Colab felt like learning a foreign language overnight. There were moments of genuine frustration where the mathematical logic felt disconnected from real world application, making the initial stages of the projects feel quite overwhelming.
To bridge this gap, I often had to mentally translate these complex data concepts into the world of football just to make sense of them. I began viewing a Linear Regression model like a manager predicting a season points total based on goals scored, while Ridge Regression became the defensive tactic used to prevent overfitting or putting too much stock into one lucky win. While this creative bridging eventually made the concepts stick, the mental tax of constantly having to humanize the code was a significant challenge during the more intense weeks of the course.

It was a huge challenge to dedicate my weekends and early mornings to the coursework, but it was absolutely achievable, and I’m so glad I made the decision.
First and foremost, the program was so well-organized and supported by mentors, professors, and the IT team that the learning felt much "lighter" than it could have been. The course platform is excellent and carefully designed; it was easy to find the curated materials, use the AI-assisted training tools, and complete the assessments.
