I decided to write a review to share my experience with online coding Bootcamps as I was confused before joining the flatiron school virtual campus.

Background: BS in Mechanical engineering, 10 years experience in the mechanical design, Mother of a toddler and 8 years old boy, super supportive family.

Timeline:
2016 - 2017 think about persuading a master degree in CS from a reputable institution.
Feb 2018 - Enrolled at Flatiron online web developer program
July 2018 - Graduated
Oct 2018 - got an offer and start a new position as a Programmer Analyst

I decided with my husband that we both wanted to go back to school and learn software engineering. It was a bit of an endeavor of course, but I am thankful that the school offered a free boot camp prep so I could feel out the program and see if it was achievable to take on going to school. The boot camp prep for the most part was pretty easy for follow along and I really liked doing the labs. At times, it was challenging, but as long as you’re comfortable asking questions or looking things up at times, you’ll do just fine. I was also very thankful that the school worked with me on financing the program (as it was a bit challenging to budget two people in the house doing this program!) Flatiron School's free Bootcamp Prep, for me, was a great refresher for HTML, CSS, and Javascript and completely taught me everything I know about Ruby. The Javascript and Ruby portions went over the basics, but also included lots of practice problems to solve, so you can start feeling more comfortable and confident when looking at functions and data structures. To me it seemed like a lot of this prep was learning and getting comfortable with Ruby, going into debugging, loops, classes, and a lot of projects. I was hesitant to learn Ruby at first, but after constantly using it and learning more about it, I've come to really enjoy thinking in Ruby. It's fun!

Doing the Flatiron Bootcamp Prep course changed my perception of what it takes to be a coder in the real world. The difference in my perception and understanding of what it takes to be a coder increased exponentially once I started using it, compared to the other free online resources I had used. The best way I can describe it is like having stabilizers removed after you've learned how to control a bike. The Bootcamp Prep course teaches you how to think and solve problems as well as teaching you key concepts, which really helps to solidify your learning, and prepares you for coding in the real world outside of a learning environment. The best part is it's completely free, can't recommend it highly enough, invaluable resource if you're thinking of applying to a coding bootcamp!

This is a great introductory course of around 75 hours covering the basics of Python, giving you a flavor of what's to come with the full Data Science course offered at Flatiron. There are lots of challenging labs and the learning curve is quite steep, but the content is very clear and well-written - so it's a rewarding process to work through the material. Highly recommended for anyone considering this as a career path, I'd say it's great value for money but that would be meaningless as - to top it all off, it's absolutely free!

I was shocked and delighted by the quality of Flatiron's free bootcamp prep curriculum. Having initially tried once or twice to find some free, online introductions to front-end programming, I had become used to platforms that--despite making big promises up front--only offered confusing, unhelpful, or overwhelming lessons that left me in the dark without any sense of progress made. Flatiron's bootcamp prep could not have been more different: evenly-paced, comprehensive, and with skill-testing labs at regular intervals to put your education into practice.

Flatiron bootcamp prep is both challenging and motivating. They really take pride in teaching future engineers. I even learned a thing or two from my technical interview. I am excited to be part of the Oct 29 cohort. As a former charter school teacher, I am not at all afraid of hard work and am excited to help fix and build things.

I've been taking dev courses here and there but was getting nowhere without consistent practice. Then I decided to get serious and took Flatiron School Bootcamp - online program. I was a bit skeptical, to be honest. But decided to go with it because it was month-to-month and I could cancel any month. Soon enough I was writing my first project from scratch. I think Flatiron has a very strong curriculum. It is built in a smart way of pushing you towards learning how to learn in the first place. I would totally recommend checking it out, especially since they have free prep-course to get a feel of the learning platform. Another big plus is career support at the end.

The prep work is a great introduction into Python because it's segmented by topics, and those topics are segmented to give your brain a break. And it's nice that all the topics build upon one another. For those coming from a not-so-technical background, this prep work is great because they explain the math concepts very well. And for those coming from a math background and/or little coding background this prep work is definitely doable and maybe even easy for you!

I would suggest that the prep work be edited a bit - towards the end I found a couple of small errors that might confuse the person taking the prep work.

Having no Python experience and little coding history, I was nervous when I found out about the technical interview portion of the Immersive Data Science Bootcamp application process. With the help of the Bootcamp Prep Course, however, I had a boost of confidence and felt fully prepared for the interview. The material on Learn.co is comprehensive and interactive. Every concept introduced is accompanied by various examples, as well as a lab activity, which provides students the chance to apply these concepts. With the help of lab activities, I gained a better sense of topics I had mastered and of areas where there was still room for improvement. Whether planning on attending the Immersive Data Science Bootcamp or simply wanting an introduction to Python, I would highly recommend Flatiron...

I am happy I attended Flatiron. I enjoyed the community, learned a lot very quickly, and now I am employed as a software engineer.

I went to Flatiron immersive software engineering course. The bootcamp experience has changed my life in a lot of ways already. It's powerful knowledge. Most of the time at Flatiron you are building apps from scratch on teams, which is a great way to learn. You'll be expected to do a lot of work on your own as well. However, don't expect to be an expert after a bootcamp. There's always more to learn and you will be humbled every step of the way. In terms of the curriculum, the Ruby on Rails section is strong but the React labs were very buggy when I took the course. They're working on making it better but it will take a while. i found the prep very engaging and fun, however some parts need a little work, like the IDE sometimes does not work perfectly. some of the online coaches are hit or miss. overall though, the prep is the reason i applied and am going to go to the flatiron school

Currently I am taking a prep course with Flatiron School and absolutely enjoy the curriculum. The community is really supportive, not only instructors but also other students and even alumni are out there to help you on every your step if you get stuck. Literally every time if something is not clear you just post your question and it takes a couple of seconds for someone to get you unstuck. You dont feel alone on this journey and that's really important.

My first and only experience with coding was through a past mentorship with my company, which helped me 'get my feet wet' and left me wanting to pursue web development. I found Flatiron's online program, which was perfect for my schedule and received the Women Take Tech scholarship to join the program. I always felt pushed during the program, yet supported- but not in a 'hand holding' way. You'll definietly get pushed into the deep end a lot, which mimics real world development!

For someone with zero prior coding experience like myself, the free online Data Science Bootcamp was a game changer. The content was challenging enough to get me to really push myself and work hard and learn a LOT by the end, but it wasn't as intimidating as to discourage me and make me give up at any point. I like how each new lab built on the previous one and things got more complicated very gradually and logically, so I never felt lost or frustrated during the process. The data and examples that were provided for each new exercise/concept were pretty intuitive and it wasn't until the very last few labs that things got very challenging and I found myself having to re-read and re-do each step multiple times before it really stuck. For context, I have just recently been accepted to the Flatiron Data Science class and have no background in coding at all. I have completed the data science bootcamp prep and about 2/3 of the other bootcamp prep class. As coding is new to me I had tried several online intro classes (datacamp, codeacademy, udemy) and the Learn.co online class Flatiron has was by far the best. The courses really explained not just what was going on in the classes but why it is occurring which is very helpful for me. Additionally, the very accessible Community tab was by the most amazing feature which allows you to ask questions about the specific course you are working on and actual tutors and other students respond within seconds (sometimes minutes, longest wait time was never longer than 5 minutes). ...
